Current Favourite Songs

In the past few years I've written occasional posts about my current favourite songs. More recently, I've also posts featuring my fave songs from the year as a whole (like my Favourite Songs of 2025 post). So here they are for the first half of 2026! The Kid LAROI- COME DOWN

Back in January, I featured some new music by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI in my New Music for 2026 post. He released his 2nd studio album BEFORE I FORGET in January. I included the video for his 3rd single BACK WHEN YOU WERE MINE in the post and also the visualiser for ME + YOU, one of my favourite songs for the album (plus links to more songs). In April, LAROI released a deluxe edition of the album, with 9 extra tracks, as well as the single I CONDEMN. The single was a Weekly Music Video last month: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/05/weekly-music-video.html

One of my favourite songs from the original release is COME DOWN.  It;s about partying to try to forget your ex (the album was inspired by LAROI's break-up with his ex-girlfriend Canadian singer Tate McRae). 

This is the official visualiser and it was uploaded in January. 

 



 The Kid LAROI- RATHER BE feat. Lithe

Another of my favourite songs from BEFORE I FORGET is RATHER BE. It follows on directly from COME DOWN (the music from COME DOWN fades into RATHER BE), they are Tracks 4 and 5 on the album.

RATHER BE features fellow Australian rapper and singer Lithe and is about how, despite trying to forget your ex, you'd still rather be with them.

Myles Lloyd, GEMINI, Karencici and JUNNY- DMC

In March I randomly came across DMC by Canadian singer-songwriter Myles Lloyd on Spotify. I hadn't heard of him before but I liked the song and ended up buying on iTunes.  

It;s actually a newer version of his song Drive Me Crazy which was released in November 2024. The remix featured South Korean R'n'B/alternative artist GEMINI, Chinese American singer Karencici and fellow Canadian singer-songwriter JUNNY.

Janine- Running Through Your City

New Zealand singer Janine released her 2nd album Pain and Paradise in August last year as well as several singles from it. Then last month she brought out the deluxe version last month.

Released on 8th May, Pain and Paradise Deluxe contains 3 extra tracks (19 songs in total). The new songs are Reset, Running Through Your City and Someone.

My favourite songs from the original release include Best Thing, Fit and If I Call (see below). And my fave song from the  deluxe version is Running Though Your City. It's a chilled R'n'B song about looking back to past times.

This is the official lyric video. It was filmed and edited by Janine herself and really fits the vibe of the song. :)

 


 

I also like If I Call. It's an older song (released in February 2023) and on the original album. I already liked it but I listened to it again recently and ended up buying it on iTunes, along with Running Through Your City (see above).

It's interesting because I included some Janine  songs in my very first Current Favourite Songs post back in June 2019. That was 6 years ago now! I still have the songs I bought from her EP 99 on my iPod, lol. Plus, Fit was one of my favourite songs from last year.

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026.
