Teen Thrillers

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week; I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :)   For ages (at least a year!) I've had the idea to do a post about my Top 10 thriller films but I just haven't felt inspired for some reason. So for now, I thought I'd write a shorter post about some teen thrillers (which happen to all be from the 90s) instead! :) Although they may not technically be classed as teen films, I've called this post Teen Thrillers because the main characters are teenagers. Since a couple of these are based on true stories, they could also be included in a true movies post ! Unless otherwise stated, the videos are trailers. Poison Ivy (1992) Lonely teenager Sylvie (played by Sara Gilbert , best known for the 90s American sitcom Roseanne , which was revived in 2018) meets Ivy ( Drew Barrymore ) and becomes friends with her.  The two girls are very different, both personality wise- Sylvie is quiet and shy, whereas Ivy is extroverted and flirty- and wit...

More John Abraham Videos

Last summer I wrote a post sharing some videos from Bollywood actor and film producer John Abraham's films. You can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2024/07/john-abraham-videos.html I had planned to do a follow-up post because I'd only featured his movies up to 2013. So here it is, although not "soon-ish" as I intended!" lol .   Nas Nas Mein from Welcome Back   In 2015 John starred in crime comedy Welcome Back , alongside Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar as criminals gone straight Uday Shetty and Sagar (Majnu) Pandey. He plays Ajay (Ajju) Ghungroo, a "goonda" (local goon), who falls in love with Ranjana ( Shruti Haasan ), the half sister of Uday. The video for Nas Nas Mein features John and Shruti. The playback singers are sibling music duo Meet Bros Anjaan featuring Shabab Sabri and Rani Hazarika . There's also a rap by Deane Sequiera .      Rehnuma from Rocky Handsome Note: May contain a slight spoiler. The following year, John play...

John Abraham Videos

In the past I've written a few posts featuring Bollywood stars, including Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi . Today I'm sharing some videos from the films of actor John Abraham . I've actually had this post in mind since early last year, I think but hadn't got round to it! John is from Mumbai (formerly Bombay) and  has a mixed family background- his dad is a Malayali Syrian Christian and his mum is a Parsi or Irani Zorastrian.*  He started out in showbiz as a model, after wining the Gladrags Manhunt Contest in 1999 and then coming second in Manhunt International. In 2003, John made his acting debut, starring in erotic thriller Jism , alongside Bipasha Basu .  The stars went on to date for several years and were known as a "supercouple". John's big break came in 2004, when he starred as Kabir, the main villain in the action thriller film Dhoom (the first film in the series ). Since then he has acted in many movies and has become known as an...

Weekly Music Video

This week's music video is Wallah Habibi from the recent Bollywood film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan . The title translates as "Big Master Little Master" in English.  It's an action and sci-fi thriller about ex-soldiers Captain Firoz/Freddy (played by star actor Akshay Kumar ) and Captain Rakesh/Rocky (played by Tiger Shroff , son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff and film producer and former model and actress Ayesha Dutt ), aka Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan, who are called back to duty.  They were previously court martialled and have been labelled "psychos", but they must now team up to recover a stolen weapon and defeat a mysterious masked enemy, who wants to destroy India. The idea is that when dealing with a psychopath, even bigger psychos are needed! Freddy and Rocky are aided in their mission by Captain Misha ( Manushi Chhillar ) and IT specialist Pam ( Alaya F ). Interesting info: Both Akshay and Tiger have studied martial arts. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was relea...

Newer True Movies

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :)   In the past I've written several posts about true movies (films based on true stories) on the blog. My last one was about two years ago, a round-up of all the previous true movie posts. You can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/03/true-movies-round-up.html   The majority of the films I've seen were made in the 90s or early 00s but I have watched some newer ones as well. So today I'm featuring some more recent true movies (made in the past decade or so).   Trigger warning: Most of the films are based on crimes (often murder or abuse) and I realise these are difficult subjects, so read with caution if you're sensitive to these types of films, or feel you may be triggered.  These are all Lifetime movies. Post contains some spoilers and the videos are trailers.   I've previously written about a couple of  newer true movies in my other posts, which y...

Weekly Music Video

Hope everyone had a good New Year! Here is the first post (and Weekly Music Video) of 2024. :) This week's video is Leke Prabhu Ka Naam Song from the recent Bollywood film Tiger 3 . The movie is the sequel to 2012's Ek Tha Tiger and 2017's Tiger Zinda Hai , and the 5th instalment overall in the YRF Spy Universe . The other films are War (2019) and Pathaan (2023). I haven't seen any of these to date (just seen the music videos) but they seem worth a watch. Tiger 3, which was released during Diwali in November, continues the story of Indian and Pakistani intelligence agents Tiger and Zoya (played by Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif ). They were revealed to now be married with a son in Tiger Zinda Hai.  The couple find themselves on opposite sides when Zoya is forced into an assassination attempt by ISI agent Aatish Reham (played by one of my favourite Bollywood actors Emraan Hashmi !).They must pull together against Aatish to save both their country and family. The Leke Prab...

Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Hum Aaye Hain from the new Bollywood film Ganapath: Hero is Born . The movie is set in the dystopian future of 2070, where Guddu (played by Tiger Shroff , son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff ), transforms into the immortal hero Ganapath to change the fate of the poor in a divided world. It also stars Kriti Sanon and Amitabh Bachchan (another veteran actor). Ganapath came out on 20th October, prior to the Hindi festival Dussehra (also known as Vijayadashami), which falls on the 10th day of Navaratri and was on 24th Oct this year. It was released in multiple languages- Hindi (Bollywood), Telugu , Tamil , Malayalam and Kannada . I haven't seen it but it's not done well at the box office, which is a shame. Hopefully the songs are having more success! :) If you are interested in watching it though, it's currently showing at the Odeon in the UK. The video for Hum Aaye Hain was uploaded on 5th October. It features Tiger and Kriti who plays the character...

New Music for 2023- Bollywood/Asian

It's a new year, so here is some music to start off 2023! :) For the past few years I've done several posts featuring new music for the new year, in varying genres. You can read 2022's at the links below:  New Music for 2022- Bollywood:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/01/new-music-for-2022-bollywood.html New Music for 2022- Various: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/01/new-music-for-2022-various.html   Today I'm sharing some new Bollywood, K-pop and C-pop! :) Note: Although Bollywood is South Asian since it's Indian, I tend to feature it separately to East Asian music. That's why I've written "Bollwood/Asian in the post title.   Jhoome Jo Pathaan Song from Pathaan First up is Jhoome Jo Pathaan Song from the new Bollywood film Pathaan . The video premiered on 22nd December but we're only halfway into January and the movie is due out later this month, so I'm including it! :)  Pathaan sees superstar Shah Rukh Khan (also sometimes writ...

Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Kala Sha Kala from the upcoming Bollywood film OM . The movie (which was previously titled Om- The Battle Within but is now called Rashtra Kavach Om ) is due out on 1st July, and stars Aditya Roy Kapur as the title character Om and Sanjana Sanghi as Kavya. It's an action thriller about Om, a soldier who is on a mission to prove his father's innocence but suffers memory loss. The film also stars veteran actor Jackie Shroff . The Kala Sha Kala video was uploaded on 16th June and it features Iranian born model and Bollywood actress Elnaaz Norouzi as a dancer (the item girl , I believe) and Om (Aditya). The playback singers are Raahi and Dev Negi .  Note: I think the song title translates as "Purely black", "Black is black" or something similar. I know that the word "kala" is "black" or "dark" in Hindi and can be used in an offensive way , but I don't think that's the case in this song. :) There ...

True Movies Round-up

Trigger warning: Most of the films are based on crimes (often murder or abuse) and I realise these are difficult subjects, so read with caution if you're sensitive to these types of films, or feel you may be triggered. I've tried to avoid spoilers in this post. :)   It's been a long time since I've done a true movies post on the blog (nearly 2 years ago), so today I thought I would do a round-up, plus share a couple of ones not featured before! :) I've previously written 4 posts about true movies (films based on true stories), here are the links: Top 10 True Movies: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2016/05/top-10-true-movies.html More True Movies:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2017/07/more-true-movies.html And More True Movies!:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/04/and-more-true-movies.html Selection of True Movies:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/04/selection-of-true-movies.html     My Son Johnny (1991) 17-year-old Anthony Co...

Bollywood Playback Singers- Sunidhi Chauhan

A while ago I had an idea to start a series featuring Bollywood playback singers. It's taken me a bit to get round to it, but here's the first one! :) A playback singer is someone who records the music for films. In Bollywood, which is the Hindi language Indian movie industry, most actors don't sing (although some do) so singers provide the vocals for them in the films. Some of the most well-known Bollywood playback singers are sisters Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle , Sonu Nigam, Alka Yagnik , Himesh Reshammiya , Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal. In this post I'm featuring Sunidhi Chauhan . Sunidhi is from Delhi and began performing at local gatherings at a young age. She made her first start in the Bollywood music business aged around 12, when she was a co-vocalist on the song Ladki Deewani Ladki Deewana (something like "Girl Crazy, Boy Crazy" in English)  from the 1996 film Shashta. The other singers were father and son Udit and Aditya Narayan. She...
