South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :)

Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali

First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1. I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html

This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.

Pushpha 2 The Rule (the sequel to Puspha) is set to be released on 5th December (3 years after the original came out). There aren't many music/songs videos released yet but I'll look out for them.

Here is the official Telugu trailer (English subtitles available!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3JUbgOHgdw

And there's also a Hindi trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kVK0MZlbI4

CHUTTAMALLE | Devara Dance Cover by SHASHI DANCE STUDIO

Next is more dance. This is a dance cover of Chuttamalle, the 2nd single from the Telugu movie Devara- Part 1, which was released this September (26th Sept). It's an action thriller starring N.T. Rama Rao Jr (often referred to as Jr NTR), Janhvi Kapoor (who also appeared in the 2021 Bollywood film Roohi) and Saif Ali Khan (who is best known for starring in Bollywood).

The playback singer is Shilpa Rao, who also sings for Bollywood and Kollywood.

The cover is performed by dancers from Shashi Dance Studio, a dance studio based in Sri Lanka. It was uploaded on 27th September. I like the whole vibe and atmosphere of the cover and video ! :)

Spark from The GOAT

Now we move on to Kollywood music! This is Spark from recent Tamil action/thriller The Greatest of All Time (The GOAT) (released on 5th September).

It stars popular actor Thalapathy Vijay aka Vijay (full name Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, who works primary in Kollywood and is also a playback singer) as Gandhi, a former spy/undercover agent for the Special Terrorist Squad (SATS). After suffering personal tragedy years ago while abroad with his family, he now has another job.

Now Gandhi is called back to his previous role by his old boss and sent to Moscow where he encounters Jeevan, young man who reminds him of himself (also played by Vijay, "de-aged"!). He believes that Jeevan is his son, whom he thought had died as a child.

Random fact: The Thalapathy part of Vijay's name is a title which means "Commander" in English and was originally given to him by a fan.

The music video stars Vijay and Tollywood/Kollywood actress Meenakshi Chaudhary. The playback singers are Yuvan Shankar Raja and Vrusha Balu

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

20th Anniversary of Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi Album- Part 1

My favourite singer Mariah Carey is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of her 10th studio album The Emancipation of Mimi. It was released back in April 2005. I'd planned to write just one post about the album but it was turning into a really long one, so I've decided to divide it into two parts! Here is Part 1. :) The Emancipation of Mimi (or TEOM for short!) was considered Mariah's "comeback album" at the time, following on from her previous two albums, Glitter (2001) which was accompanied by the film of the same name and Charmbracelet (2002). Neither the Glitter movie or album were very well received and after going through a difficult time in general, Mariah had an emotional and physical breakdown and checked into hospital that summer. She was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder , although didn't feel ready to speak about it pubicly until several years later .  Although Charmbracelet (MC's first release after leaving Virgin Records America and singing w...
