Current Favourite Songs

Occasionally I write a post about my current favourite songs. I've done it about once a year since 2019 but I actually didn't write one last year (although I did share my favourite songs from 2023 overall in January). So I'm picking it up again in 2024! You can see my previous posts at the links below:

I still have most of the songs featured in my first post on my iPod! And these are my current favourites. :)

Gen Neo- Same Mistakes

Singaporean singer Gen Neo released the single Same Mistakes last December but I first heard it in January. I wrote in my New Music for 2024 post that it was one of my current favourite songs and I still really like it now.

It's a mellow R'n'B English language song about making mistakes when it comes to love. I like the overall relaxed feel of it. There's a guitar version which is good as well.

This is the audio. Please note that the song contains swearing. :)

See below for more music by Gen. :)

Adanna Duru feat. Mannywellz- Put It Down

I first heard Adanna Duru's'ssong Put It Down featuring Mannywellz in February, although it came out in December.  It's still one of my faves. I like the Afrobeats/R'n'B style.

Put It Down was a Weekly Music Video in Feb: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2024/02/weekly-music-video_21.html

SinƩad Harnett- Thinking Less

British singer SinƩad Harnett uploaded a video for the song Thinking Less in February. It was released as part of the single The Most in March, along with the title track and another song, Say Something. All 3 songs will be on SinƩad's upcoming 3rd solo album BOUNDARIES, which is due out on 26th April.

Thinking Less is an R'n'B song with chilled vibes (I still enjoy chilled out songs!). This is the performance video.

Ethan Low and Gen Neo- KISS&TELL

I recently came across this song on iTunes, when I was searching for music by Gen Neo!It's a collaboration between Gen and Ethan Low.

Ethan is a singer/songwriter from Canada and he has Malaysian/Singaporean heritage. He released his debut album GEMINI last July. His singles include GEMINI, BUBBLY, SKINTIGHT with Korean singer Jimmy Brown, BOUJEE, KISS&TELL and his latest, parasite (written in lower case) with Malaysian singer yuji.

Ethan's music seems to be mainly R'n'B. I can't find much info about him online but I'll update this in the future, if I do. :)

KISS&TELL came out in February. It's a laidback song with sensual lyrics about not kissing and telling when it comes to a romantic/sexual encounter! I think that Ethan and Gen's musical styles and vocals go well together.

This is an audio. Please note that it has explicit lyrics. :)

And here's  a kind of "mini music video" for KISS&TELL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzoPs618mJA

Plus, watch the official visualiser for Ethan's latest single parasite here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhQ82gUGnHo

And for more Gen, his latest single Scarred For Tryin. is another song that I like at the moment. It was a Weekly Music Video recently: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2024/04/weekly-music-video_10.html

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) I noticed that the songs are quite similar, like mostly laidback R'n'B. That's what I'm into at the moment! What are you currently listening to?

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D...

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html Pushpha 2...
