New Music Releases

I last shared a New Music Releases post at the beginning of June. So now that we're well into summer, I thought I'd share some new music from a mix of genres, for the current season! :)

 

KARD- Touch 

First up, some K-pop! This is Touch, the latest single by Korean mixed gender/co-op group KARD. It's the lead single from their 8th mini album DRIFT and both came out on 2nd July.

DRIFT features 7 tracks, including BETCHA, Touch, Pivot and instrumental versions of Touch and Pivot.

Touch is an English and Korean language song with sexy lyrics, which reinterprets 2000s music. Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

Tyla- IS IT

Next up here is IS IT by South African singer Tyla. It's one of the new tracks from her brand-new mixtape WWP, which was released yesterday (25th July).

IS IT was the 2nd pre-release single from the mixtape (following BLISS, which came out in May). WWP stands for "We wanna party", a South African (and Nigerian) chant and is about enjoying life, not just partying but in general. In addition to the singles, it consists of two other tracks- DYNAMITE with Nigerian singer Wizkid and MR. MEDIA.

IS IT is an Afro-pop and R'n'B song and has been described as the "song of the summer", despite it currently being winter in Tyla's home country of SA! Tyla teased the song on her TikTok, before releasing it on 11th July (pushed back from its original June release date). It reached the Top 10 in South African charts, marking Tyla's 3rd Top 10 hit there.

Mabel- Turn Me Up

It could be shaping up to be a summer of mixtapes, with British/Swedish singer Mabel also releasing one yesterday! The self-titled mixtape is Mabel's 1st single since her 2nd studio album About Last Night... which was released in 2022. It's described as a reintroduction to Mabel, "offering a raw and unfiltered statement of who she is today".

She released several singles last year, including Vitamins, Look At My Body Pt. II featuring Shygirl and Stupid Dumb featuring Ty Dolla $ign. And this January, she brought out the single All Over You, with Ghanaian singer King Promise.

The mixtape is Mabel's 2nd (following 2017's Ivy to Roses) and consists of 9 tracks including the singles Benz featuring British rapper Clavish (released in May), January 19 and Love Me Gentle  (released in May and June) and Turn Me Up. It sees Mabel return to her R'n'B roots (rather than the more dance and poppy sounds that featured on About Last Night..., which I am happy about because R'n'B is one of my favourite genres! :)

Turn Me Up is a laid-back, sensual song. This is the visualiser, with the lyrics on screen.

 


 

Side note: Congratulations to Mabel and her fiance Preye Crooks (founder of the Strawberries & Creem Festival) who recently celebrated her bridal shower! :)

Mariah Carey feat. Shenseea and Kehlani- Sugar Sweet

Finally, my favourite singer Mariah Carey has also relased new music! Following on from her recent single Type Dangerous (releaed last month), she has a new single called Sugar Sweet. Both singles are from Mariah's upcoming album Here For It All (nicknamed MC16, since it will be her 16th!).  She alo released a 4 track EP for Type Dangerous in June, featuring remixes.

The new album is due for release on 16th September. It will be MC's first studio album 2018's Caution. Earlier this year she celebreated the 20th anniversary of The Emancipation of Mimi, one of her most successful albums to date.

For Sugar Sweet, Mariah teamed up with Jamaican singer Shenseea and American singer Kehlani. It's a dancehall inspired song (a genre which Shenseea is known for) and Mariah describes it as "very summery".

The single came out yesterday. There's only an audio so far but if there's a music video later, I'll update this post!

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. 25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year.
