Weekly Music Video

Today's video is Don't Recall by K.A.R.D. They are a Korean group which consists of 4 members, J.seph (real name Kim Tae-hyung), Somin (full name Jeon Somin), B.M. (real name Matthew Kim but is also known as Kim Jin-seok or Woo-jin) and Jiwoo (Jeon Jiwoo).* I've just read that there's also a "hidden" member, Heo Younji who sings with the rest. She hasn't appeared in any videos so far.

K.A.R.D are unique since they are a mixed gender group. While it's more common in the UK (3 groups I can think of off the top of my head are Hear'Say, Liberty X and Clean Bandit), in South Korea they tend to have girl groups or boybands. There are also other European groups such as Aqua and Vengaboys. (I couldn't think of an American pop group with both male and female members but I thought there must be at least one! Let me know if you know of one).

Each member represents a letter of the group's name and a card in a pack of playing cards- B.M. represents K and the King card, J.seph is A and the Ace, Somin represents R and the BlackJoker and Jiwoo is R and the ColouredJoker. Hidden member Youngji/Young-ji is D, I think. Somin used to be in girl groups Puretty (now disbanded) and APRIL and was also in Baby KARA (she competed on the TV show Kara Project to find a new KARA member). Young-ji also took part and won, becoming member of KARA in 2014. The group is currently inactive.

K.A.R.D debuted in December with their first project single  K.A.R.D  Project Vol.1, which featured the song Oh Na Na. I think a "project single" isn't a proper release because they haven't made their official debut. Maybe it's to kind of test the waters and see what the response to them is. Oh Na Na featured Young-ji.

This is their second project single K.A.R.D Project Vol. 2: Don't Recall which came out this month. Click "Subtitles/Closed Captions" for English subtitles! :)

Update 5/3/17: There's now another music video for Don't Recall called "Hidden Version" and it's an English version of the song! :) Check it out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWWLZOQKo78

J Soul Brothers (Japanese boyband)

I don't know that many Japanese boybands. It's funny but I mostly know Korean groups and Japanese solo singers! I know KAT-TUN, Arashi (although they're more of a rock group, I think) and Hey! Say! JUMP but not many more. A friend recently introduced to me the band (or vocal and dance unit) J Soul Brothers, so I thought today I'd do a post about them. And of course it fits into the J-pop and K-pop theme I'm doing this month! This is a good opportunity to find more J-pop boybands too. :)

The J Soul Brothers were originally formed in 1998 but have gone through two line-up changes. The current incarnation- full title Sandaime (Third Generation) J Soul Brothers from EXILE TRIBE* or J Soul Brothers III- was formed in 2010 by HIRO who is the leader of Japanese boyband EXILE (which has an impressive 19 members!) and founding member of the First Generation J Soul Brothers.  It was decided that EXILE and former Nidaimie (Second Generation) J Soul Brothers members NAOTO and …

Dance Videos

It's time for another dance post! I thought I'd feature both modern dance and belly dance today. :)

First of all here are a couple of dance videos by choreographer Rumer Noel. This is one to Everyday by Ariana Grande that was uploaded in January. According to comments on YouTube the man dancing with Rumer at the beginning is called Lucas la Parada.

So Sharp: Dance Squad

So Sharp: Dance Squad is an American reality TV series about the University of Louisville Ladybird Dance Team run by Todd Sharp. It's set in Louisville, Kentucky. As you'll know if you follow this blog, I'm a fan of dance reality shows such as Dance Moms and Bring It! So I was interested when So Sharp started in the UK a few weeks ago.

Todd is head coach along with Sheryl Knight, a former Ladybird herself. Todd has also coached the Floyd Central Dazzlers. The team have won 15 national championships so far.

As with the other dance reality shows, there's a lot of drama! Marissa Hall is close to Todd and describes him as like a father to her. She is considered one if the best dancers and her close relationship with Todd rubs some people up the wrong way, particularly Michelle Carpenter. Rose Crombie is one of Marissa's main rivals but according to the Decidr article about the team (see below) they're close. Gabrielle Iannone struggles sometimes with the choreograp…
