It's been a while since I've done a New Music Releases post. Apart from my posts about new music at the beginning of the year, the last one was in October. So today I'm sharing some new releases (from a variety of genres) for late spring. :)
Tyla, Gunna and Skillibeng- Jump
South African singer Tyla just released her latest single Jump. She teamed up with American rapper Gunna and Jamaican DJ Skillibeng for the song, which came out on 20th May. The video was this week's Weekly Music Video: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2024/05/weekly-music-video_22.html
BM feat. Jay Park- Nectar
Korean American rapper BM (who is a member of K-pop mixed gender/co-ed group KARD) recently released the solo single Nectar. It's from his 1st EP Element, which came out on 7th May. He has previously released several solo singles and 3 single albums- The FIRST STATEMENT (2021), STRANGERS (2022) and LOWKEY (2023).
Element is a 5 track Korean and English language EP and BM's bandmate SOMIN features on the song Badgirl Badboy.
Fellow Korean American rapper Jay Park features on Nectar, which is a sexy R'n'B track. It's the lead single from Element

tripleS- Girls Never Die
And some more K-pop! Korean girl group tripleS have just released their debut single as a full group. In a unique concept, tripleS' aim is to be the world's first fan participating girl group and first decentralised K-pop group. It consists of 24 multi-national members (somewhat similar to boy band NCT, which has 26 members in the full groups and 6 sub-units), who will rotate between the main group, sub-units and solo activities.
I saw them performing on Simply K-Pop CON-TOUR and they just about fit on the stage! lol.
Fans will be involved in making decisions related to releases and the sub-units, and they will do this by using NFT photo cards called Objekts. (I find this part a bit confusing, to be honest but expect I'll understand it more later!) The fandom is called WAV.
Note: I'm not going to list all the members here because it will take me too long, lol. But visit their official site and Kprofile (linked below) for a full list and background on them. :)
The group was formed by South Korean record label and entertainment agency Modhaus. The name tripleS means "The Idol of Possibilities" and the 3 "Ss" stand for "Social, Sonyo, Seoul".
tripleS members and sub-units were introduced over time, starting in May 2022 and culminating in the complete group debuting in 2024. Currently there are 8 sub-units (listed in order of debut)- Acid Angel from Asia, +(KR)ystal Eyes, ACID EYES, LOVEultion, EVOlution, NXT, Aria and Glow.
tripleS released their first instrumental album 4study4work4inst Vol. 1 in February and made their debut as a full team this month, with the release of their first studio album ASSEMBLE24.
Girls Never Die is the lead single from ASSEMBLE24. It was voted for by fans and is about having the will and determination to not collapse and keep going, despite enduring difficulties. Both single and album came out on 8th May.

Mabel, Shygirl- Look at My Body (Pt. II)
British/Swedish singer Mabel has teamed up with British singer, DJ and rapper Shygirl for her new single Look at My Body (Pt. II). It had been quite a while since Mabel released new music, so it's nice to see her back. After bringing out her 2nd album About Last Night... in 2022, she took a break from the industry, although she was a host on Swedish radio show Sommar last year.
At the beginning of the year she released a new remix of her hit 2017 song Finders Keepers and in February she brought out the single Zero with Ghanaian singer and rapper Black Sherif.
Then in April Mabel released the new single Vitamins, which I also like. Both Vitamins and Look at My Body are more like her original style. Although I understand that she wanted to try new things, I am glad to see her return to R'n'B. :)
Look at My Body (Pt. II) is about "questioning the male gaze and celebrating the divine feminine". Mabel says that she's often felt judged by her appearance but is now at a stage where she wants to celebrate her body without letting it define her.
I don't think Part 1 has been released (since this is called "Pt 2" I presume there's a Pt. 1) but maybe there was an earlier version.
The video for Look at My Body premiered on 10th May. Please note that it has a bit of an "adult" theme (relating to sexuality). :)
Plus, you can watch the official lyric video for Vitamins here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaUEX0_skwA

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) What music are you listening to currently?
