New Music Releases

There's some good music coming out lately, so I thought it was time for another New Music Releases post! I've written two other ones this year, in May and August. I'm featuring a mix of genres, Western and Asian pop style. :)

 

Katy Perry feat. Doechii- I'M HIS, HE'S MINE

First up is a new song by American singer Katy Perry. It's called I'M HIS, HE'S MINE and features rapper and singer Doechii. It actually came out on 13th September, so isn't really new but I just came across it on MTV recently!

I'M HIS, HE'S MINE is the 3rd single from Katy's 7th studio album 143, which was released on 20th September. It follows previous singles WOMAN'S WORLD (released in July) and LIFETIMES (released in August).

It's a dance (house) and pop song where Katy and Doechii warn other women off their men! The track samples Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless), the 1991 single by American singer Crystal Waters. 

Gypsy Woman was also sampled by both American rapper T.I. for his single Why You Wanna back in 2006, and by British singer Nick Brewer for his 2015 single Talk To Me featuring German singer Bibi Bourelly. I like both of those songs as well and featured Talk To Me in a New Music/Videos post in August 2015.

I'm a fan of Katy but to be honest, her music is a bit "hit and miss" for me. I really like some songs (such as Teenage Dream, Dark Horse, Wide Awake and Harleys in Hawaii), like some others ok (e.g. I Kissed a Girl and Hot N Cold) but I'm not that into others (like Firework and Roar). I wasn't that keen on her first two singles from the new album but I like this one. :)

Please note that the song contains explicit lyrics. :)

 

Side note: Doechii is also featuring on BANKS' new single I Hate Your Ex-Girlfriend (due out on 18th October). I'm looking forward to hearing the whole song!

KARD- SPIN

Next up, some K-pop! This is SPIN, the latest single by Korean mixed gender/co-ed group KARD.  It's from their 7th mini album Where To Now? Part 1: Yellow Light, which was released in August.

I suppose SPIN isn't technically K-pop because it's an English language song (with a few Spanish lyrics!) but I'm still classing it as that, lol. This the performance video, which was uploaded on 7th October.

Jay Park feat. CHUNG HA

Korean American rapper and singer Jay Park teamed up with Koren singer CHUNG HA (a former member of now disbanded K-pop girl I.O.I turned solo star) for the new single Gimme A Minute. It's from Jay's 6th studio album THE ONE YOU WANTED, which was just released on 8th October.

Gimme A Minute is an English R'n'B song, and Jay and CHUNG HA work well together on the track! It came out on the same day as the album.

XG- IYKYK

Here is IYKYK, a brand-new song from Japanese girl group XG. It's the 2nd pre-release single from their upcoming mini album AWE (the follow-up to their debut NEW DNA), which is set for release on 8th November. The first single from AWE was SOMETHING AIN'T RIGHT, which came out in July.

IYKYK stands for "If You Know, You Know" and is a pop/R'n'B song. It's about XG breaking boundaries with new challenges, while exploring the endless universe at lightspeed. The track samples the 2001 single prism by Japanese hip hop group m-flo.

The video premiered yesterday (11th October).

 

Mabel feat. Ty Dolla $ign- Stupid Dumb

Finally, here is Stupid Dumb, the new single by Swedish/British singer Mabel. It features American singer Ty Dolla $ign.

Stupid Dumb is a nice, chilled R'n'B style song about "going stupid" when you love someone and was written by both Mabel and Dolla $ign.

It's the 4th single from Mabel's upcoming 3rd album, following on from her other 2024 singles Vitamins,  Look at My Body Pt. II featuring Shygirl, Female Intuition and her last single Chat, released in the summer. 

This is the official visualiser and was uploaded yesterday. (I think the single came out on 7th October.) Mabel's mum Swedish singer Neneh Cherry appears briefly in it!
