Happy 50th Anniversary (Bday) Mariah Carey!

Note: The date for this post is listed as 19th March because I accidentally published it  a few days ago before it was ready! But I have actually finished it today (27th March).

Back in July last year Jennifer Lopez (one of my favourite singers) turned 50 and I wrote a birthday post to celebrate. Now it's the turn of  Mariah Carey who is my absolute favourite singer (still love you too, J.Lo! lol) who is 50 today. So here is MC's birthday post! :)

Note: I have seen Mariah's birthdate listed as either 1969 or 1970 but more often as 1970, I think. If you are a Lamb (Mariah fan) you will know that she prefers to call her birthdays "anniversaries", hence the title of this post!

Mariah is one of the most well known singers in the world, with a career spanning 30 years. To date, she has released 15 studio albums and 75 singles. She debuted in May 1990 with the single Vision of Love and self titled debut album the following month.

Mariah's biggest hits include Hero, Fantasy, All I Want for Christmas Is You (probably one of the most popular Christmas songs in recent history), Honey, Heartbreaker featuring American rapper Jay Z, Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now) featuring Irish boyband Westlife and We Belong Together.

I used to like her early music but didn't get much into music in general until I was about 12. When I was a teenager she became my favourite singer, and when I learnt that she is mixed race like me, I found her more inspiring. Her album Butterfly was the first album I ever bought in 1997 (on cassette tape, remember those?!).  I would still consider that my fave Mariah album today.

My all time favourite singles include Honey, Heartbreaker (Remix), I Still Believe Remix, Fantasy and Thank God I Found You (Make It Last Remix). (As you can see, I am a fan of remixes!).

So to celebrate her 50th, here is a round-up of the previous MC posts on the blog:

My All/Stay Awhile (So So Def Remix)/ (Re-mix Version) with Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz

This is the remix version of Mariah's 1998 hit single My All featuring American hip hip duo Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz. While I do like the original My All, as with several MC songs I prefer the remix! The So Def Remix features on the 2003 album The Remixes.

I'm not sure why the music video has got a slightly different title to the one on The Remixes album, but it is the same song. :)

Faded

Finally here is Faded, my favourite song from the 2014 album Me. I Am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse:

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) Are you a Mariah fan? What is your favourite song/s?

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...
