V-pop Round-up

If you follow Star Sparkle Blog, you'll know that I'm a fan of Asian music. The types I feature most often are J-pop (Japanese music), K-pop (Korean) and C-pop (Chinese). I do also write about other genres, such as Vietnamese, Thai and Indonesian, so I thought it would be cool to focus on one of those for a change. (I'm also a fan of Bollywood but I tend to write separate posts about East/Southeast Asian music.)

Today I'm sharing a round-up of previous Vietnamese (known as V-pop) posts on the blog, plus some new music. :)

Hoàng Thùy Linh- See Tình

And here is a song I haven't previously shared, See Tình, by Hoàng Thùy Linh (or Thùy Linh Hoàng in Western terms). She started out mainly as an actress and TV star, but was also a member of the girl group Thien Than.

Thùy's Linh's acting career was unfortunately affected by scandal, after a video of her and her boyfriend having sex was released online in 2007. She was 19 at the time but playing a schoolgirl in the TV series Vang Ang's Diaries. The show ended up being cancelled.

However, Thùy Linh returned to the entertainment scene, this time as a solo singer. She released her self-titled debut album in April 2010. Since then, she has brought out 3 more albums- Đừng vội vàng (2011), Hoàng (2019) and her latest, LINK, which came out last summer.

In addition, Hoàng has released 3 EPS- Hoàng Thùy Linh Mini Album 2012, Hoàng Thùy Linh 2013 and S.I.X with producer Triple D (2013)- and a compilation, The Ballad Hits (2017). Her singles include Nhịp Đập Giấc Mơ ("Beat of Dreams" in English), "Đừng Vội Vàng (Don't Rush), Để Mị nói cho mà nghe (Let Me Tell You Something), See Tình, Bo Xì Bo (Pause Pause) and her latest, Hạ Phỏm (All Cards on Desk).

See Tình is from Thùy Linh's latest album LINK, which was released in August 2022. The song title translates as "See Love" in English and is about love at first sight. There was a dance challenge to See Tình shared on TikTok.

The video premiered on 20th February 2022 (almost exactly a year ago!). Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) I might do a Thai or Indonesian round-up in future. Who are your favourite V-pop singers/groups? And what other types of Asian music do you like?

P.S. I've also featured music by Vietnamese American singer thuy on the blog. Watch the video for her 2022 single girls like me don't cry (English language) here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/10/weekly-music-video_12.html

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
