This summer I wrote two posts featuring Asian boy bands and I also did a post about Filipino groups. I enjoy discovering new Asian music, and so today I'm featuring two more Asian groups that I've come across recently- a boy band from the Philippines and a girl group from Indonesia.
BGYO (Filipino)
First up is BGYO. They are a 5-member Filipino boy band, formed in 2018 by the media network ABS-CBN, through the Star Hunt Academy programme. Their name stands for Becoming the change, Going further, You and I, Originally Filipino (the first letter of each sentence forms the initial). Their sister group is girl band BINI, who I previously featured in my Filipino Groups post!
The members are leader Gelo (real name Angelo Troy Rivera), Akira (full name Akira Morishita), JL (John Lloyd Toreliza), Mikki (Michael Claver Jr) and Nate (Nathaniel Porcalla). They are all from the Philippines apart from Nate, who is American. Akira is Japanese and Filipino, and Mikki has Chinese heritage from his mum, who is half Chinese.
BGYO debuted in January 2021 with their single The Light. Both the song and the music video were very successful on Spotify and YouTube. They have also released international versions of The Light in Bahasa Indonesian, Japanese, Spanish and Thai (similar to BINI who have also recorded songs in different languages). Their 2nd single He's Into Her (the official soundtrack for the teen romantic comedy TV series of the same name), followed in April. They released their debut album in October last year.
The group sings mainly in Filipino and English. To date they have released 13 singles, including their first two, The Baddest, When I'm With You, Sabay, Best Time (the soundtrack for the sequel/second series of the He's Into Her TV show), Tumitigil Ang Mundo, Magnet and their latest, PGNGP. Their second album BE:US came out on 3rd November.
BGYO are known as the "Aces of P-pop" (Filipino pop) and have become the first Filipino pop group to have their own topic on Twitter.
Tumitigil Ang Mundo
This is Tumitigil Ang Mundo which translates as "The World Stops" in English. It was the first single from BE:US and was released on 13th July. Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube to see English subtitles! :)
Magnet
And this is Magnet, the second single from their new album. It came out on 20th October. I especially like the R'n'B vibe of this one! English subtitles also available. :)

V1RST (Indonesian)
And next is V1RST. They are an Indonesian girl group who just made ther debut in October with the single Malu Malu. They were formed by 1ID Entertainment and are the sister group of boy band UN1TY. There are 7 members- Jessica (full name Alexandra Jessica Ivana Happy Rasari), Fia (Luthfia Triandra), Rara (full name Rahma Aulia), Reva (Reva Janice Vellycia), Sachiko (Sachiko Arielle), Faela (Rofaela Nasywa Syakira) and Safa (Putri Safa).
