In the past couple of years or so I've come across several Bollywood songs that have been remade and given a modern spin, so I'm featuring a few covers today. :)
Dilbar (Sirf Tum/Satyameva Jayate)
Dilbar Dilbar is a song that originally featured in the 1999 romantic drama Sirf Tum (translated in English as "Only You") in English, which starred Sanjay Kapoor (brother of Anil Kapoor), Priya Gill and Sushmita Sen. The film was also a remake, based on the 1996 Kollywood (Tamil language) movie Kadhal Kottai. The playback singer was the popular Alka Yagnik.
In 2018 Dilbar (which is translates as "Beloved") was remade for the film Satyameve Jayate, with singers Neha Kakkar, Dhvani Bhanushali and Ikka. The second "Dilbar" in the title was dropped. The hit music video features Moroccan-Canadian dancer and actress Nora Fatehi, who is known for her work in Indian film industries, including Bollywood (Hindi language) and Tollywood (Telugu).

The new Dilbar was a bonus video in Part 1 of my 2018 Bollywood Round-up, which you can see here (scroll to the bottom): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2018/08/bollywood-round-up-2018-part-1.html
Nora also teamed up with Moroccan hip hop group Fnaire for an Arabic version of Dilbar. Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaye Dil/Dus Bahane 2.0 (Dus/Baaghi 3)
Back in early 2020, I featured Dus Bahane 2.0, a new version of the popular song Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaye Dil from the 2005 action film Dus ("Ten" in English) on the blog. The movie stars Sanjay Dutt, Abishek Bachchan, Suniel Shetty and Zayed Khan as policemen working together to thwart a terrorist attack.
The song was remade for the 2020 action thriller Baaghi 3 (itself a remake of Tamil film Vettai). The original playback singers were KK and Shaan, both of whom returned for the Baaghi 3 version, now accompanied by Tulsi Kumar. I liked Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaye Dil and Dus Bahane 2.0 is good as well.
Here is the Dus Bahane Karke Le Gaye Dil video:
I included Dus Bahane 2.0 in my New Music for 2020- Part 3 post: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/02/new-music-for-2020-part-3.html
The full video wasn't out at the time but I later updated the post to link to the full version. Watch it directly here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgpRminfnRA
Next up is Deedar De, another well-known song from Dus. The playback singers are Sunidhi Chauhan and Krishna Beura.
A new version was recorded for the 2020 comedy movie Chhalaang (starring Rajkummar Rao and Nushratt Bharucha), released in November 2020. The singers for the cover/remake are Asees Kaur and Dev Negi. As with Dus Bahane, I like both versions.
Here is the original Deedar De:
And I featured the new one as a Weekly Music Video in May last year: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2021/05/weekly-music-video_19.html
Sakhiyan/Sakhiyan2.0 (Punjabi single/BellBottom)
Last summer saw the release of Sakiyan2.0 from the 2021 spy thriller BellBottom. In the film (based on true events), star actor Akshay Kumar plays undercover government agent Anshul Malhotra (code name "BellBottom") who is on an aeroplane flight highjacked by terrorists in 1984.
The song is a remixed version of the Punjabi song Sakiyan by Maninder Buttar, whose other hit songs include Yaari and Laare. It was released in October 2018.
Maninder also sings the 2.0 version, joined by Zara Khan.
Here is Sakhiyan:
And here is Sakhiyan2.0, which came out last August. The video features Akshay and Vaani Kapoor (whom I first came across in Befikre in 2017), who plays Anshul's wife Radhika.

Koi Sehri Babu
Finally, the song Koi Sehri Babu, originally sung by legendary singer Asha Bhosle (sister of fellow singing legend Lata Mangeshkar) had a 2021 makeover! Asha's version featured in the film Loafer back in 1973, which starred Dharmendra (whose kids also act, including one of my faves Bobby Deol) as a skilled jewel thief.
Last November a new version was released featuring the vocals of Shruti Rane. She is most known for hit songs Har Daafa with Shaan and Do Ghoont. Indian reality star turned actress Divya Agarwal stars in the video.
Here is the original:
Update 5/11/22: The video is blocked from playing on 3rd party sites/applications, but can be viewed fine on YouTube. :)
