New(ish) J-pop Music and Dance

It's been ages since I've done a post solely about J-pop (not since last summer!). So today I'm featuring a selection of Japanese music and dance. As with other J-pop posts, some videos are new and others a bit older, so it's new(ish).  :)

[DANCE IN PUBLIC ONE TAKE] MISAMO Do no touch dance cover- Mermaids Taiwan

First up, some J-pop in Public! This is a dance cover of Do not touch by MISAMO, the first sub-unit of  K-pop girl group TWICE. The unit is made up of the band's 3 Japanese members, Momo, Sana and Mina, so they have released music in Japanese.

Do not touch came out last July as the lead single from MISAMO's debut Japanese EP Masterpiece. The dance cover is performed by Mermaids Taiwan and features Ling as Mina, Yiwei as Sana and Anta as Momo. The video was uploaded in October.

PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE feat. JP THE WAVY- Just Like Dat

Next up is some J-pop music (or rather J-R'n'B/hip hop). This is Just Like Dat by PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE. They are a 7 member boy band and part of the Japanese male music collective/supergroup EXILE TRIBE (the 7th group to debut). The group (signed to LDH Japan and Rhythm Zone) was formed in 2019 and originally consisted of 9 members. However, HANATAROU (real name Yamada Khadim Ryo) left in 2020 due to health issues and SAM (Sam Robinson) later left in 2022. Their name "reflects the chemical reaction their collective talents ignite".

The current members are leader TSURUGI (full name Takaskhi Tsurugui), RYOGA (Nakanishi Ryoga), REN (Watanabe Ren), JIMMY  (Osayi Jimmy Kazuki), KOKORO (Kohatsu Kokoro), RYUSHIN (Handa Ryushin) and WEESA (Saiki Weesa).* There are two mixed race/heritage members (which I think is cool, since I'm mixed myself)- Jimmy (half Nigerian and half Japanese) and Weesa (half Moroccan and half Japanese). All the boys are from Japan.

PSYCHIC FEVER made their debut in 2022, with the single Choose One released in June and their first studio album P.C.F. coming out in July. They have also released two EPs- PSYCHIC FILE 1 (2023) and 99.9 Psychic Radio (2024). Their other singles include Hotline, To the Top feat. DVI, FIRE  featuring Thai rapper SPRITE, Temperature, THE HEAT, Just Like Dat and their latest, Highlights (Twilight Remix). They are due to release their 3rd EP PSYCHIC FILE II next month.

Just Like Dat features Japanese rapper JP THE WAVY and is from PSYCHIC FEVER's 2nd EP 99.9 Psychic Radio, which was released in January. It came out that month. It's an R'n'B/hip hop song with late 90s/early 00s vibes!

It's mostly Japanese with some English lines. Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles. :)

Koda Kumi- Silence

My favourite Japanese singer Koda Kumi (or Kumi Koda in Western terms) released the digital single Silence last month (on Valentine's Day/14th Feb). It follows the digital single Vroom (released in January) and is the theme song for the new Japanese film Gold Boy. Kumi is set to release a new album called UNICORN on 17th April, so maybe this song will be on it too.

Silence is a gentle ballad with a relaxing video. I like the colours in the video, they go well with Kumi's purple dress. :)

Note: Avex videos are blocked from being played on 3rd party sites, but you can view it fine on YouTube. :)

And you can find the video for last summer's single BLACK WINGS in my New(ish) J-pop Videos post from last August: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/new-j-pop-videos.html

THE JET BOY BANGERZ/TEN- Dance Performance

Here is a dance performance by another Japanese boy band/dance and vocal group. They're called THE JET BOY BANGERZ from EXILE TRIBE and they are also a part of the EXILE TRIBE collective, along with PYSCHIC FEVER (see above).

THE JET BOY BANGERZ were formed in 2022, from LDH's largest auditon, iCon Z~ Dreams for Children~. Their name means that "a group of noisy personalities gather and burn like jet engines" and the members aspire to be the top artists of Generation Z.

The group consists of 10 members (who are also part of LDH Japan's chorus group DEEP SQUAD and the professional dance league D.LEAGUE) - leader Tanaka Show, Uhatra Yuhi, AERON (full name Mark Aeron), Ishikawa Kota, NOSUKE (real name Ito Kounosuke), TAKUMI (Kuwara Takumi), HINATA (Sato Hinata), TAKI  (Kojima Taki), Sato Shigetora and Nakamuri Aoi.*

Aeron was born in the Philippines but now lives in Japan. He has Korean and Filipino heritage. All the other members are Japanese.

The group debuted in August last year with the single Jettin'. They released their debut EP Photogenic at the end of January and the title single was also released in Jan.

This is a dance performance of TEN, the second track from Photogenic. The video premiered on 29th February.

NOA- YBOM (You've Been On My Mind)

Finally, here is YBOM, the latest single by Japanese singer NOA, which was released on 14th March. The initials in the title stand for "You've Been On My Mind". The song has a laid back pop/R'n'B vine.

English subtitles available! :)

Hope you liked the post! :) What Japanese songs are you listening to currently? Or any dance videos you're watching?

P.S. Happy Easter to those celebrating! Or hope you're having a nice weekend! :)

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
