C-pop Saturday

Time for the next instalment of my semi-regular series C-pop Saturday! The last one was back in April, so here's another selection of Chinese music for your summer. :)

 

WayV- Action Figure

ØZI feat. 9mm88- B.O

Here is B.O by Taiwanese American singer-songwriter, rapper and producer ØZI. His real name/s is Chen Yi Fan (Chinese, written with surname/family name first) and Stefan Chen (English).  His mum is Taiwanese pop star Irene Yeh and his dad Chen Wen-pin was a well-known photographer from the 80s to the mid-200os

ØZI was born in Los Angeles and later moved to Taipei, and is fluent in both English and Mandarin. He started taking music classes aged 4 and formed his own rock band at 7! His influences include the rapper Eminem and alternative rock/metal band Linkin Park. 

ØZI is signed to the hip hop label Forbidden Paradise and made his debut with the album ØZI; The Album in July 2018 . His 2nd album PEDSTAL is out now. 

B.O was released in July 2018 and features Taiwanese singer-songwriter 9mm88.

Gen Neo- RUNNING

Next up is RUNNING by Singaporean singer Gen Neo. It's from his first EP AD ASTRA which was released back in December. My favourite songs from the EP are HOLD BACK and WHERE TO GO, and I'd say this is my 3rd fave. :)

The music video premiered on 25th June.

SING- Ji Mingyue (new version)

Now for the girls! This a song by Chinese girl group SING. It's a new version of their song Ji Mingqyue which translates as something like "Send to the Moon" in English. (Thank you to YouTube commenters and Google Translate!) 

This is a dance practice video which was uploaded last September. I don't think the group has released anything lately but I'll keep an eye out! :)

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. 20th Anniversary of Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi Album- Part 1

My favourite singer Mariah Carey is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of her 10th studio album The Emancipation of Mimi. It was released back in April 2005. I'd planned to write just one post about the album but it was turning into a really long one, so I've decided to divide it into two parts! Here is Part 1. :) The Emancipation of Mimi (or TEOM for short!) was considered Mariah's "comeback album" at the time, following on from her previous two albums, Glitter (2001) which was accompanied by the film of the same name and Charmbracelet (2002). Neither the Glitter movie or album were very well received and after going through a difficult time in general, Mariah had an emotional and physical breakdown and checked into hospital that summer.
