Asian Songs for Summer

As you'll know if you follow this blog, I'm a fan of Asian music such as Japanese, Korean and Chinese pop. I thought it would be cool to share some Asian summer themed songs and videos. :)

Note: I'm focusing on East Asian music today but if you'd like some Bollywood music check out my latest post here (The Naari Naari Song from Made In China): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/07/weekly-music-video_29.html

Jay Park feat. GRAY- DRIVE

First up is DRIVE by Korean American singer Jay Park and featuring Korean singer and rapper GRAY. This was a Weekly Music video back in October 2016, but the video has real summer vibes! Check it out here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2016/10/weekly-music-video_19.html

Jessi- Down

In July 2018 I included Korean American singer Jessi's single Down in my More Summer Songs post: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2018/07/more-summer-songfs.html

TWICE- Dance The Night Away

Last summer I featured Korean girl group TWICE's Dance The Night Away in this Songs for Summer post. It has a desert island themed video: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/08/songs-for-summer.html

WINNER- ISLAND

Also in the post was Korean boyband WINNER's music video for the song ISLAND, which of course features the boys on an island! Watch it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/08/songs-for-summer.html

E-girls- Love* Queen

This is Japanese girlband E-girls' single Love* Queen which was released back in July 2017. The video features the girls on a road trip (across America by the look of it): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2017/07/weekly-music-video_19.html

E-girls- E.G- summer RIDER

Here's another one from E-girls. This is E.G. summer RIDER which was released in July 2016. It was from their 4th album (a double release) E.G. CRAZY which came out the following January. The video was uploaded in June 2016.

This isn't the full song since their record company Avex often doesn't upload full videos.

Note: Avex videos are blocked from being shown on third party applications. If you click on the video you can watch it fine on YouTube. :)

I've just read that E-girls plan to disband at the end of the year, which is a shame. I don't follow them too closely but like their music. Hope you've enjoyed their videos featured on Star Sparkle. :)

RIRI, KEIJU (prod. Nariaki Obukuro)- Summertime

In June I did a post called Summer Songs Round-up which shared summer themed music previously posted on the blog. A new song I included was Japanese singer RIRI's 2019 single Summertime, from the EP of the same name. The track features rap artist KEIJU: Find it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/06/summer-songs-round-up.html

Julia Wu- Summertime (Julia Wu Remix)

Chinese Australian singer Julia Wu did a remix version of Summertime, a mixture of English and Chinese. You can watch the video in the post as well: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/06/summer-songs-round-up.html

TANAKA ALICE- Miss Summer

Japanese rap artist and hip hop singer TANAKA ALICE released the single Miss Summer in July last year. In the video a couple are both working hard, but the girl dreams of them getting away to spend a day together. At least that's what I gather it's about. :)

The song is taken from the EP of the same name.

lol- perfect summer

Finally here is perfect summer from mixed gender/co-ed group lol.  (Both the song and group name are written in lower case). It came out in January 2019 but is a definite summer song!

Note: Avex videos are blocked from being shown on third party applications. Click on the video to watch on YouTube. :)

Hope you liked the post and that your summer is going well, despite the differences this year due to the coronavirus. :) I just went to the beach today (first time in ages), but practised social distancing!  What are your favourite Asian summer themed songs and videos?

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

20th Anniversary of Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi Album- Part 1

My favourite singer Mariah Carey is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of her 10th studio album The Emancipation of Mimi. It was released back in April 2005. I'd planned to write just one post about the album but it was turning into a really long one, so I've decided to divide it into two parts! Here is Part 1. :) The Emancipation of Mimi (or TEOM for short!) was considered Mariah's "comeback album" at the time, following on from her previous two albums, Glitter (2001) which was accompanied by the film of the same name and Charmbracelet (2002). Neither the Glitter movie or album were very well received and after going through a difficult time in general, Mariah had an emotional and physical breakdown and checked into hospital that summer. She was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder , although didn't feel ready to speak about it pubicly until several years later .  Although Charmbracelet (MC's first release after leaving Virgin Records America and singing w...
