C-pop Saturday

I've been doing C-pop Saturday a bit more regularly this year, so here's a new one for September! In today's post I'm featuring a Chinese girl group for the first time. :)

SING- Ye Sheng Ge

First up is Ye Sheng Ge by Chinese girl group SING (also written as S.I.N.G). Their name stands for Super Impassioned Net Generation and they were formed in 2015 by Chinese music and streaming download service KuGou Music

The group originally consisted of 10 members (from different regions of China), but now there are 7. The current members are leader Qin Yu (English name Sophie), Wu Yao (Miko), Xu Shiyin (Valentina), Bian Li (Jessica), Chen Li (Pink), Lin Hui (Haha) and Jiang Shen (Debbie). Lai Meiyun (Sunny) was also a member but she then concentrated on being a member of Chinese girl group Rocket Girls 101, until their disbandment in June. She has now gone solo.*

SING released their debut single Youth Confession in August 2015. Their music is electronic dance that also has influences from traditional Chinese music.  One of their most popular singles is Wo Yao Shang Chan Wan (Moonlight Thoughts) which came out in 2018. They have an impressive catalogue of singles and several of the girls have released solo songs too. (Plan to check them out in future.) To date the group has brought out two studio albums, SING (2017) and Jie Meng (2019). Their latest songs include Disco, which came out in January and Phantom.

Ye Sheng Ge is also listed as Night Song and Song by Sheng in English. Zhe Li, the English translator and subtitle maker for the dance version of the music video, provides some background about the song in the YouTube comments. The literal translation of the title in English is "Song by Sheng". A sheng is a traditional Chinese instrument played at night for special events such as festivals and parties. The song is based on the music of minorities in Southwestern China. View the video on YouTube to read more about it (top comment). :)

Ye Sheng Ge was released in August 2018. This is the Dance Version, the video I first came across. Click "Subtitles/Closed Captions" to see English subtitles.

Update 5/6/25: I had to replace the video but I think this is the same version.

Julia Wu- Things Things Things (English version)

Next up is a new song from Chinese Australian singer Julia Wu. This isn't actually C-pop, but the English version of her Chinese language song Things Things Things. It's from her first English album 5pm which is out now. She also has a Chinese album called 5am.

The English version of Things Things Things came out in August, just before the new album.

KUN- Hard To Get

This is Hard To Get by Chinese singer KUN (real name Cai Xukun), a former member of the boyband Nine Percent turned solo singer.

Hard To Get was released in May 2019.

According to a commenter on YouTube, KUN doesn't upload videos much on that platform, but if you have the Chinese microblogging/social media platform Weibo then you're in luck, since he uses that more! View his Weibo here: https://m.weibo.cn/u/1776448504

Hope you liked the post! :) Do you have any favourite girl or boy groups?

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
