C-pop Saturday is a feature I started in 2018 and
it became "semi-regular", since I only did 3 posts that year! Last year
I did 5 which was better, lol. I plan to make this a regular feature
during 2020, so here is the first C-pop Saturday post of the year! :)
JJ Lin- Wonderland
First up is Wonderland by Singaporean singer and songwriter JJ Lin. His full name is Lin Jun Jie Wayne and he is from a Kim-mui Hokkien family.* He released his debut album Music Voyager in 2003 and since then has brought out 12 more albums, including Haven (2004), Sixology, (2008), She Says (2010), Lost N Found (2011), Genesis (2014), From M.E. to Myself (2015) and Message in a Bottle (2017). I don't think he's released so many singles but there have been some such as Resurgence of Us, The Right Time, Wonderland and his latest, The Story of Us.
JJ Lin, who sings in Mandarin, Cantonese, English and his native dialect Hokkien, has written songs for other artists, such as Taiwanese singers A-Mei and Cyndi Wang. In addition to music, he has also appeared in several films and TV series.
Wonderland came out in November. The video features a futuristic love story.

Julia Wu- Things Things Things
Next up is Things Things Things by Australian born Chinese singer Julia Wu. She is from Brisbane, studied at the Berklee School of Music in America (majoring in piano) and appeared on The X Factor Australia aged 19. She also appeared is Series/Season 2 of the reality TV show Miss Korea and is currently based in Taiwan.
Julia is an Rn'B singer and sings in English and Mandarin. She released her debut album 1:28 in 2017. Last summer she did a mix of Japanese singer RIRI's single Summertime and her 2nd album 5am came out last month,
Things Things Things is from 5am It's a mixture of Mandarin (I think) and English, and was released in November.

Tia Ray- Looking Out For You
Here is a new (ish) song by Chinese singer Tia Ray. I can't read the Chinese title but I think its called Looking Out For You. The video was uploaded in November.

UNINE- SET IT OFF
I've mentioned before that I don't know many Chinese boybands. However I heard about the group TFBoys in 2017, and I featured two members of Chinese boy groups Nine Percent and NEX7 in last month's C-pop Saturday post.
I recently came across UNINE, so thought I would include them here today. :) They are a 9 member (hence the name!) boyband, who were formed in S2 of the reality show Idol Producer (similar to the K-pop survival shows). The members are Li Wenhan, Li Zhenning, He Chanhzi, Yao Mingming, Chen Youwei, Guan Ye, Jia Yi, Xia Hanyu and Hu Chunyang.* Wenhan is also a member of Chinese/Korean boyband UNIQ and Mingming was almost a member of K-pop group Seventeen.
UNINE debuted in May last year with the EP UNLOCK. This was followed by their second EP UNUSUAL in October. They sing in Mandarin.
This is SET IT OFF which was released in November.
Hope you enjoyed the post! :) I plan to feature more Chinese music this year. Who is your favourite C-pop star and/or what is your fave song?
