This week's video is Bang by Brazilian singer Anitta. Her real name is Larissa de Macedo Machado and she started out in her career by posting videos of herself singing on YouTube. She released her debut single Meiga e Abusada ("Sweet and Sassy" in English) in summer 2012 and then signed with Warner Records. The single was re-released digitally in early 2013. Her self-titled debut album was released in June 2013.
Anitta's stage name is inspired by a character from the Brazilian TV series Presença de Anita. To date she has released 5 studio albums- Anitta, 2014's Ritmo Perfeito (Portuguese for "Perfect Rhythm"), Bang (2015) and Kisses (2019). In addition she brought out the live album Meu Lugar (My Place) in 2014 and two EPs- TĂ¡ na Mira (2013) and Solo (2018).
Some of her well known songs are Show das Poderosas, Na Batida, Bang, Make It Hot with Major Lazer and Fuego (Spanish for "Fire") with DJ Snake, Sean Paul and Tainy. She has collaborated with many artists including Australian rapper Iggy Azalea on Switch, Te Lo Dije with Dominican singer Natti Natasha and Tu Y Yo ("You and I" in Spanish) with Chris Marshall, Becky G and J Balvin. Her most recent single is Desce Pro Play (PA PA PA) with MC Zaac and American rapper Tyga, which was released on 26th June.
In addition to her native Portuguese, Anittta speaks fluent Spanish and English meaning she can cover the wider Latin music world and the Western market. She released her first solo Spanish single Paradinha (Little Break) in 2017 and collaborated with Poo Bear on the English language single Will I See You in 2018.She recently signed with the American Warner Records team, with plans to release new Spanish and English music.
I first saw Anitta's music videos on the TV channel Trace Latina which they started showing it in the UK last year. Although I've probably come across her on YouTube at some point). They've now taken away that channel (I don't know why since they only launched it last year!), but they still show some Latin music videos on Trace Urban.
Bang is from Anitta's 3rd studio album of the same name and was released in October 2015. It's in Portuguese. I can't post the video directly on here (it's been difficult since Blogger was updated) but here's a lyric video:
Update 12/12/20: The lyric video is gone, but I can now post the music video directly on here:
Update 2- 6/7/22: Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles. :)
