Songs for Summer

3 years ago I posted about my Top 10 Summer Songs and last year I did a follow up post called More Summer Songs. You can read them both at the links below:

https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2018/07/more-summer-songfs.html

Now summer seems to be going fast and it's already August so I'm sharing some songs to enjoy for the rest of the summer.  :)

Janine- Vacation

I featured this in my New Music Releases post in June. Since it's called Vacation it's very appropriate for this time of year! It has a nice, chilled summer vibe. Listen here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/06/new-music-releases.html

The Wanted- Glad You Came

British/Irish boyband The Wanted released Glad You Came in July 2011. It was the 2nd single from their album Battleground and reached No. 1 in both the UK and Ireland, as well as being in high chart positions in other countries. It's their most successful single. I remember it was played constantly that summer! lol.

Lana Del Rey- Summertime Sadness

Maybe summer gives you a sad vibe instead of a happy one? In that case you might like Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness! Summer is my favourite season and I get down in winter, but I know for some people it's the other way round. :)

American singer Lana (real name Elizabeth Grant) released her debut self titled album digitally in early 2010 (back then she was known as Lana Del Ray rather than Rey), but it had a limited release since her record label was reportedly unable to fund it. Her breakthrough came with the 2011 single Video Games and she went on to release her 2nd studio album Born to Die in January 2012.

To date she has brought out 2 more albums, Ultraviolence (2014), Honeymoon (2015) and 2017's Lust for Life; and several EPs including 2012's Paradise and Tropico (2013). Her singles include Born to Die, Summertime Sadness, National Anthem, Ride, West Coast, Lust for Life (with Canadian singer The Weeknd) and Doin' Time.

Lana  released Summertime Sadness in June 2012, the 4th single from her 2nd studio album Born to Die. It was very popular in Europe, reaching No. 1 in several countries. A remixed version was released the following summer and it also did very well.

Lana's latest album Norman F**king Rockwell is due out on 30th August. Keep up with her at these links:

Cory Lee- Lovers Holiday

Canadian singer Cory Lee (whose full name is Cory Lee Urhahn and is also an actress) released Lovers Holiday in 2007. It's from her second album Sinful Innocence. Her other albums are What a Difference a Day Makes (2005), Hot Pink Heart- Part One (2012) and Hot Pink Heart- Part Two (2013). She also has an EP called Cruel Intentions & Fashion Show, released in 2012. Cory is probably best known for The Naughty Song, which was used for the American TV series The L Word.

I bought Lovers Holiday years ago and really liked it at the time. I hadn't listened to it for ages but thought it would be good for this post, since it's about going away on holiday. Although it's about going with a lover, if (like me) you don't have a lover you can still enjoy the song!

I haven't heard much of Cory in recent years, but she's still releasing music. Her latest song is MAN UP which came out in January: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sg-7Qd3T87c

TWICE- Dance The Night Away

Korean girl group TWICE brought out the single Dance The Night Away in July last year. It's from Summer Nights, the reissue of their 5th EP What Is Love? The video features the girls shipwrecked on a desert island, so a good one for summer!

WINNER- ISLAND

Finally here's a K-pop boyband video also with an island theme! Originally a 5 member group WINNER was formed in 2013. Tayhyun (full name Nam Tae-hyun) left in November 2016 and the band currently consists of 4 members- Yoon/Seungyoon (full name Kang Seung-yoon), Jinu/Jinwoo (full name Kim Jin-woo), Mino (Song Min-ho) and Hoony/Seunghoon (Lee Seung-hoon).*

To date they have released 2 Korean studio albums, 2014 S/S (2014), EVERYD4Y (2018) and one Japanese, Our Twenty For (2018); 3 single albums and 2 EPs (all Korean). Their latest release is the EP WE which came out in May. Their singles include Empty,  Really Really, Love Love Me, Everyday, Millions and the latest, Ah Yeah.

ISLAND is from the 2017 EP Our Twenty For and was released in August 2017.

Hope you like the post! :) What are your fave summer songs? How is your summer going? It's gone rainy and really windy in the UK this weekend (especially on the south coast where I live), but hopefully it will get nicer again soon! Hope you're having a good summer (or winter depending where you live!) :)

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D

New J.Lo and JoJo Music

Two singers I like, Jennifer Lopez and JoJo have new music out, so today I'm sharing it on the blog! Jennifer Lopez- Baila Conmigo First up is Jennifer Lopez, whose new song is the Spanish language Baila Conmigo (Dance with Me). It's a cover of the 2018 single by Dayvi featuring Kelly Ruiz . Watch the video with the original mix here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZM52M6cfSA Baila Conmigo (J.Lo version) came out on 10th October. This is an audio but if there's a music video later, I'll update the post. :) Want more J.Lo? New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo),
