New Music Releases

I last did a New Music Releases post in June, when summer was starting. We're now in autumn (or spring depending where you live), so here is some new music (in a variety of genres) for a new season! :) 

 

NCT 127- Fact Check

First up is Fact Check by NCT 127, the 2nd unit of Korean boy band NCT. The other units are NCT U, NCT DREAM, WayV (Chinese), NCT DOJAEJUNG and their newest, NCT NEW TEAM (see below).

Fact Check is the lead single from their 5th studio album of the same name. Both single and album were released on 6th October. Click "Subtitles/closed Captions" on the video on YouTube for English subtitles! :) 

 

NCT NEW TEAM (now NCT WISH)- Hands Up

Update 25/2/24: The group's official name is now NCT WISH. I've updated links in this section.

Next up is more NCT! NCT New Team (working title) is the 6th and newest sub-unit from Korean boy band NCT (see above) and the first Japanese unit. Last summer I mentioned in my Asian Boy Bands- Part 2 post that two new units were set to debut in future- NCT Hollywood (American based) and NCT Tokyo (Japan based). NCT Tokyo have now been renamed as NCT NEW TEAM but the group name may change later on. They are managed by the South Korean record label SM Entertainment and the Japanese record label Avex.

NCT NEW TEAM  consists of 6 members- Sion (full name Oh Si On), Riku (Maeda Riku), Yushi (Tokuno Yushi), Daeyoung (Kim Daeyoung, Ryo (Hirose Ryo) and Sakuya (Fujinaga Sakuya). Riku, Yushi, Ryo and Sakuya are Japanese, and Sion and Daeyoung are Korean.*

The group is set to officially debut next year. This is Hands Up, their pre-debut single which was released on 8th October. It's a Japanese and English language song.

Ayra Starr- Rhythm & Blues

This is Rhythm & Blues by Nigerian singer Ayra Starr. It's her latest single which was released on 12th September. There was an official lyric video but I can't find it in her account anymore.

Rhythm & Blues is an Afrobeats love song sung in English/Nigerian Pidgin (at least I think it's Pidgin).  The official music video premiered on 10th October.

 

Mariah Carey- It's A Wrap (Sped Up)

And finally, my favourite singer Mariah Carey recently uploaded a visualiser for the sped-up version of It's A Wrap. The song originally appeared on her 12th album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel (which came out in 2009) but it was never released as a single.

At the beginning of year It's A Wrap went viral on TikTok as part of a dance challenge which Mariah launched. She then released it as an EP in February, along with a remix featuring singer Mary J. Blige (which previously appeared on Mariah's 2014 album Me. I Am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse), a sped-up version and a 3-minute edit. The EP is also coming out on vinyl on 1st December. 

It's  A Wrap isn't my fave song on Memoirs but I do like it. :) The sped-up version sounds good. The video was uploaded on 13th October.
