C-pop Saturday

Time for the 2nd post of the year in my semi-regular C-pop Saturday series, which features Chinese pop (and sometimes R'n'B and rap). You can see the first post of 2022 here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/01/c-pop-saturday.html

Julia Wu- sunset

First up is sunset (title written in lower case) by Australian born Chinese singer Julia Wu. It's an English and Chinese language song about wanting to be with a past lover and share the sunset with them. The song is from Julia's latest album 2622, which came out last year.

The first verse of sunset is Chinese (Mandarin, I think) and the rest is English.  I like how it starts out slow and chilled, and then the R'n'B beats kicks in. I'm not sure if the rap is by the American rapper 2chill, since 2Chill is also the video director.

This is a visualiser video and was uploaded in November.

Split music video (it's often listed by the Chinese title, so if you can't read Chinese- like me-and have trouble finding it, it's track No. 9 on the album): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2021/09/c-pop-saturday.html

NICKTHEREAL- GOOD LIFE

Next up is GOOD LIFE by Taiwanese singer NICKTHEREAL (real name Nick Chou). It's from his new album REAL LIFE, which came out in January. There are good songs on there including this one,  HEALTHY MIND (my favourite), and LOVE IS PAIN.

GOOD LIFE is a Chinese and English song. The video premiered on 14th March.

Priscilla Abby- Chinese title/Don't Make Me Like You Too Much

And here is a new song from Priscilla Abby (full name Priscilla Abby Chai). She is a Chinese Malaysian singer who started out uploading covers to YouTube in summer 2016, before being signed to WebTVAsia in 2017. She released her debut single I Love The Sky in July 2017.

Priscilla speaks both Chinese (Mandarin) and Malay. Her music is described as "Mandopop EDM" (Mandarin language pop/electronic dance music).

The English title of this single is Don't Make Me Like You Too Much. This video was uploaded on 14th March.

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
