Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Big Energy by Latto and Mariah Carey, and featuring DJ Khaled. Latto (also known as Big Latto) is an American rapper and her real name is Alyssa Stephens. Her original stage name was Mulatto or Miss Mulatto, which she chose because she is mixed race. "Mulatto" is a term once used for mixed black/white people (like Latto, Mariah and myself), but now tends to be considered offensive. So, she changed it due to the controversy.

Latto started out by winning the first season of TV show The Rap Game in 2016 and went on to release her first mixtape Miss Mulatto in October 2016. She then got her big break with the single Bitch from Da Souf, released in January 2019 and brought out her first studio album, Queen of Da Souf in August 2020. Her other singles include the Bitch from da Souf remix with Saweetie and Trina, Muwop featuring Gucci Mane, The Biggest and her latest, Wheelie featuring 21 Savage.

To date Latto has released two more mixtapes- Latto Let 'Em Know (2017) and Mulatto (2018), and 3 EPs- Time and Pressure (2017), Big Latto (2019) and Hit the Latto (2019). Her second album 777 came out on 25th March.

The original solo version of Big Energy appears on 777 and was released as the lead single last September, becoming Latto's highest charting single so far.  It samples the 1981 song Genius of Love by American band Tom Tom Club, which was one of the most sampled rhythm tracks of the 80s. My favourite singer Mariah Carey also sampled the track back in 1995, for her hit single Fantasy. So, it's especially cool that there is now a remix with Mariah! :)

The Big Energy remix featuring Mariah and DJ Khaled was released on 28th March. This is the official audio.

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026.
