C-pop Saturday

Time for the first C-pop Saturday of the year! This is a semi-regular feature that I started back in 2018. The last post was in November, so here is some Chinese music for 2022 (not brand new but a mixture). :)


PANTHEPACK- Shanghai Dream

First up is Shanghai Dream by PANTHEPACK. They are a Chinese hip hop group founded by Hong Kong rapper and singer Jackson Wang (who is also a member of K-pop group GOT7). In addition to Jackson, the other members are Chinese American singer-songwriter Karencici, Taiwanese American rapper/producer J. Sheon and Chinese rapper ICE.

PANTHEPACK is managed by TEAM WANG, Jackson's company. They started out by releasing the songs DNA and Transmit last April. Their other singles include Pull Up, Gut Feeling and BUZZ.

Shanghai Dream is their latest single and was released on 10th December.  The song is a mixture of English and Chinese lyrics (English subtitles available). This is the official visualiser.

Jackson Wang- JACKSON WANG

Next up is another Jackson video. It's a self-titled song about his journey so far, feeling lonely as he travels the world and finding connection.

Steve Aoki + Jolin Tsai + MAX- Equal in the Darkness

In November, American DJ Steve Aoki teamed up with popular Taiwanese singer Jolin Tsai and American singer MAX (real name Max Schneider) for the single Equal in the Darkness. Jolin and Steve previously worked together on the single Stars Align (along with R3HAB) last April.

Equal in the Darkness is about how we're all human and searching for the same thing. Ultimately, we're all "equal in the darkness". There are Chinese and English versions. This is the Chinese version (also contains some English lyrics).

WayV- Miracle

Finally, this is Miracle by boyband WayV, the Chinese sub unit of the Korean group NCT. This is an English language song but I thought I'd include it today. :)

Lucas is currently on hiatus (due to serious allegations) and I think that WinWin is concentrating more on his acting career at the moment, so WayV are performing and promoting as a 5 member group. 

Miracle came out on 3rd December and is from NCT's 3rd studio album Universe (released on 14th Dec). It sounds like an old school 90s R'n'B song!

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 .
