Dance Shows Updates- Dance Moms: The Reunion

In the past I've written about several dance reality TV shows on the blog, including Dance Moms, Bring It! and Step It Up. Both Dance Moms and Bring It! have made a return to TV this year (in different formats), so I thought it would be good to do a post about the shows. The Dance Moms cast have returned for a reunion and Dianna Williams (Coach D)  from Bring It! has a new mini series called Dianna.

Today's post is about Dance Moms: The Reunion. :)

Dance Moms, a show following a group of students at the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) their mothers and Abby Lee herself, was originally broadcast in July 2011. It ran for 8 seasons (or series as we also call it in the UK), finishing in September 2019.

I think that we first got it in the UK in 2013 (I remember they showed it on Lifetime UK in late 2013), when there had already been 4 seasons. The Lifetime UK channel is now gone (it closed in 2021) but they're currently showing repeats on TLC. There was also a British version called Dance Mums with Jennifer Ellison, which had only 2 series and was shown in 2014 and 2015.

My first post about Dance Moms was in 2014 (10 years ago now!). You can read it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2014/03/dance-moms.html

I've since written more posts about the dancers, including a series of updates on the Dance Moms girls.

Things have changed a lot since Dance Moms first aired, with the dancers growing up and forging their own careers. Abby has also gone through personal struggles, being jailed for fraud and recovering from cancer.

Last November, Lifetime announced that the Dance Mom cast would reunite for a two-hour TV special and more details were revealed in March.

The Reunion premiered on Lifetime on 1st May (in the US) and saw dancers Chloe Lukasiak, sisters Brooke and Paige Hyland, Kendall Vertes and Jo Jo Siwa reuniting to look back at their time on the show and share updates on their lives now.

They were joined by Dance Moms Christi Lukasiak (mother of Chloe) who hosted the show,  Kelly Hyland (mum of Brooke and Paige), Jill Vertes (Kendall's mum) Jessalyn Siwa (mother of Jo Jo) and Kira Hilliker (Kalani's mum). Abby didn't take part.

Here's the trailer:

I think it's a good idea to bring the former cast together. It would have been nice to see the other original dancers, sisters Maddie and Mackenze Ziegler and Nia Frazier but obviously it's up to them what they get involved in. They are no longer bound into a contract with Abby and/or the show, which must be a relief. Nia said she just didn't want to do it, which is understandable.

I was wondering when we'd get this in the UK but I think at the moment it's only available to stream online or through certain TV services, if you don't have Lifetime. I don't have any streaming services though. Since we no longer have Lifetime here, maybe it will eventually make its way to TLC, like the Dance Moms series. Hopefully we'll get it sometime and if not, there are clips online on Lifetime's channel. (I don't think we can access the US Lifetime site in the UK, it redirects to a British one.)

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D...

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html Pushpha 2...
