Dance Moms Girls Updates- Part 1

I recently did a post about dance videos and came across a new music video of Mackenzie from the American reality series Dance Moms. That inspired me to write a post about what she and the other girls have been up to since the show ended last year. I'm going to split it into two parts because it will be quite long if I include updates on everyone in one post! Here is Part 1.

Dance Moms finished  (at least with the current cast) after  7 series/seasons. Abby Lee Miller, the teacher and owner of the Abby Lee Dance Company (ALDC) is currently in prison after being sentenced for bankruptcy fraud. The original girls (those who were left), Nia, Kendall, Kalani plus newer dancer Camryn formed a team called The Irreplaceables and former dancer Chloe joined them. (The name came about because one of Abby's favourite phrases is "Everyone's replaceable!"). Brynn opted to stay with Abby and the Minis team. Here's a look at what the girls are doing now. :)

Maddie Ziegler

Maddie is probably one of the most well known Dance Moms stars due to starring in music videos for Australian singer Sia, most notably Chandelier. She left the ALDC and Dance Moms during Series 6 in 2016 to pursue other career opportunities and her little sister Mackenzie (see below) went too. Since then she has been a judge on American dance competition show So You Think Can Dance?,  toured with Sia, acted, modelled and released  memoir The Maddie Diaries.

Now 15, she is active on social media and due to star in upcoming film Sister this year. She's also released a novel called The Audition.

Here she is in the music video for Sia's single Rainbow, from the My Little Pony: The Movie animation which was released last October.

Nia Frazier

Nia launched a singing career in 2015 under the stage name Nia Sioux (Sioux is her middle name). She was often put on the bottom of the "pyramid" (a rating system used each week by Abby) and not given much support with her dancing, so it was good to see her strike out on her own. Abby started out managing Nia's singing career but her mum Holly felt that Abby was holding her back, so she made her own arrangements.

Nia released her debut single Star In Your Own Life in 2015 and went on to bring out 3 other singles, SLAY,  Dance, Just Rock and You Don't Really Wanna. She is now 16 and currently dancing with The Irreplaceables. (Although she didn't tour with them recently). She's also just launched a clothing collection with Popular Girl.

Here's the video for You Don't Really Wanna which was released last July.

And here's a dance video she uploaded to YouTube earlier this month, dancing to Halsey's Walls Could Talk:

Chloe Lukasiak

Chloe left the programme at the end of S4 in 2014, due to Abby's ill treatment of her. Abby also had a bad relationship with Christi, Chloe's mum. She returned to the show last year dancing with rival team Murietta Dance Project (MDP). She then decided she'd rather dance with her old friends and became part of The Irreplaceables. I did an update in Chloe almost a year ago which you can read here: http://starsparklex.blogspot.co.uk/2017/02/dance-moms-chloe-update.html

Like the others she has danced in music videos, modelled and acted. She's released clothing and shoe line and has a Lifetime (same network as Dance Moms) webseries called  Chloe Does It. Now aged 16 she's currently dancing with The Irreplaceables and her debut book Girl on Pointe: Chloe's Guide to Taking on the Wold has just come out.

There are no recent dance videos but this is a video from 2015 where Chloe danced to The Weeknd's Earned It as part of the Team Chloe Dance Project.

And one from last March dancing to Clementine by Kendall Rucks. I think it's jerky because of the type of camera it was filmed on.

Mackenzie Ziegler

Maddie's younger sister Mackenzie launched her music carer under the name Mack Z in 2014 with the release of her debut single Girl Party and debut album Mack Z. Both single and album reached No. 1 in the iTunes charts. Her other singles include Shine, Christmas All Year Long, Teamwork, Day & Night, Monsters aka Haters, Perfect Holidays and Breathe. She has also appeared on So You Think Can Dance and the kids' TV show Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn, as has Maddie.

Makenzie is now 13 years old, (Wow, where did the time go?!) and her latest single is Breathe. This was the music video I came across while doing my recent dance videos post (see above). The choreography was done by Rumer Noel, who has previously choreographed for the Dance Moms girls.

This is Breathe which came out in November.

Kendall Vertes

Kendall, who is now 15, joined Dance Moms in S2 in 2012. She released her debut single Wear 'Em Out around the same time as Nia in 2015, under the name Kendall K. At the time her mother Jill was happy for Abby to manage Kendall but I don't know if that's still the case. Her 2nd single Where Would I Be Without You was released in February 2017.

In November she brought out her debut holiday EP K-Mas in time for Christmas, followed by the single Feels Like Christmas in December.

This is the Dance Moms version of Where Would I Be Without you featuring the other girls and Jill! It was uploaded last May. I remember seeing it on the show.

And this is Feels Like Christmas. Bit late for it now but never mind! lol.

Random fact: Kendall's older sister Ryleigh is a member of the dance team who feature in the reality show So Sharp: Dance Squad and Jill has appeared too!

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

New J.Lo and JoJo Music

Two singers I like, Jennifer Lopez and JoJo have new music out, so today I'm sharing it on the blog! Jennifer Lopez- Baila Conmigo First up is Jennifer Lopez, whose new song is the Spanish language Baila Conmigo (Dance with Me). It's a cover of the 2018 single by Dayvi featuring Kelly Ruiz . Watch the video with the original mix here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZM52M6cfSA Baila Conmigo (J.Lo version) came out on 10th October. This is an audio but if there's a music video later, I'll update the post. :) Want more J.Lo? Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
