Weekly Music Video

Today's video is Like California, the new single by Singaporean singer Gen Neo and featuring Korean singer DeVita. It is Gen's first collaboration with a female R'n'B artist under the Korean hip hop and R'n'B entertainment company/record label AOMG.

Gen started his career in South Korea and has released music mainly in Korean and Chinese (Mandopop aka Mandarin language pop). He is now moving into the English music scene, having previously released 3 all-English singles- Blame it On Me, RELAPSE and In The Morning in the past months.

DeVita's releases include her EPs Crème (2020) and American Gothic (2022), and the 2022 singles Eat Your Heart Out, Buddy Kane! and BTBT, her collab with Korean rapper and singer B.I (formerly the leader of boy band iKON), American rapper Soulja Boy.

Like California is a contemporary R'n'B dance track. In the YouTube description box, Gen says that he wants listeners to "be able to feel the wind rushing by as one drives down the highway at sunset". The video premiered on 10th January. It features the lyrics on the screen, which is cool. :)

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. 20th Anniversary of Mariah's The Emancipation of Mimi Album- Part 1

My favourite singer Mariah Carey is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of her 10th studio album The Emancipation of Mimi. It was released back in April 2005. I'd planned to write just one post about the album but it was turning into a really long one, so I've decided to divide it into two parts! Here is Part 1. :) The Emancipation of Mimi (or TEOM for short!) was considered Mariah's "comeback album" at the time, following on from her previous two albums, Glitter (2001) which was accompanied by the film of the same name and Charmbracelet (2002). Neither the Glitter movie or album were very well received and after going through a difficult time in general, Mariah had an emotional and physical breakdown and checked into hospital that summer.
