Favourite Songs of 2022

I'm working on my annual Best Of post featuring the best of Star Sparkle Blog from this year. However, I won't be able to finish it before the end of the year, so I'm doing a post sharing my favourite songs from 2022 instead.

I have an occasional feature called Current Favourite Songs and my last one was in February. You can see that here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/02/current-favourite-songs.html

They aren't always new songs though, just what I'm currently listening to.

So here are my favourite songs from this year! :)

Sinead Harnett- Let Go

Back in January, British singer Sinead Harnett released the single Let Go, which was from the deluxe version of her 2nd album studio Ready is Always Too Late. I featured it as a Weekly Music Video in February: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/02/weekly-music-video_23.html

BANKS- Holding Back

In April American singer BANKS released her 3rd album Serpentina. My favourite song from it is Holding Back, which was the 3rd single, released in February. I featured the audio and lyric videos in a new music post, (along with a B Young video): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/02/new-music-b-young-and-banks.html

Justin Bieber feat. Don Toliver- Honest

In April Canadian singer Justin Bieber teamed up with American rapper and singer Don Toliver for the single Honest, an R'n'B song with a laidback beat. It was a Weekly Music Video in May: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2022/05/weekly-music-video_11.html

XG- Tippy Toes

Japanese girl group XG made their debut with the single Tippy Toes back in March. I remember seeing them performing it at the time on the Korean music show Simply K-pop CON-TOUR, but I came across it again when I was doing a Dance Videos post last month. I featured a dance cover of the song by Australian dance crew Hustle and ended up buying the single after hearing it again.

XG consists of 7 members- leader JURIN (full name Asaya Jurin), CHISA (Kondou Chisa), Hinata (Sohara Hinata), HARVEY (Amy Jannet Harvey), Juria (Ueda Juria), Maya (Kawachi Maya) and Cocona (real name Akiyama Kokona). * Their group name stands for Xtraordinary Girls.

While the members are Japanese (HARVEY is mixed Japanese and Australian, and Hinata is Japanese and Korean, but both are from Japan), they are considered a global group and their songs have been in English so far. To date they have released two singles- Tippy Toes and Mascara, which came out in June.

Tippy Toes was a digital single and was released in March.

Gen Neo- RELAPSE

I just came across some new music by the Singaporean singer Gen Neo, which was released earlier this year. My favourite is Relapse, a song about "relapsing" by wanting to go back to your lover. I love the R'n'B vibes of this. :)

It's an English language song (he also sings in Chinese/Mandarin) and was released in August.

Also check out his latest single Till The Morning (released in November): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHEJsjsAkxc

RINI- Haunt Me

Finally, Australian singer RINI just released his new EP Ultraviolet this month. I featured the song Pressure as a Weekly Music Video a couple of weeks ago. I also really like Haunt Me, a song about being haunted by a past lover.

The video premiered in October.

Hope you enjoyed the post! What are your favourite songs of 2022?

It's almost New Year's Eve now (or already is, depending where you are) so Happy New Year! This will be the last post of the year. Thank you for reading Star Sparkle and see you in 2023! :)

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D...

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...
