Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Make it Hot by Jamaican/American trio Major Lazer and Brazilian singer Anitta. Major Lazer was founded in 2008 by American record producer Diplo, and British DJ Switch. When Switch left, he was replaced by Jamaican American DJ Walshy Fire and Trinidadian DJ Jillionaire, and the duo became a trio. Jillionaire also left and was then replaced by American DJ and record producer Ape Drums.

Major Lazer's music is electronic dance mixed with various genres, including reggae, dancehall and house. To date they have released 4 studio albums- Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do (2009), Free the Universe (2013), Peace Is The Mission (2015) and Music Is The Weapon (2020. In addition, they have brought out one compilation and several remix albums and EPs. They also have an animated TV series based on them!

The group have collaborated wth many arists, and their hit singles include Lean On with DJ Snake and MØ, Who Am I with Katy B and Craig David, Cold Water with Justin Bieber and MØ, and Leg Over Remix with Mr Eazi, French Montana and Ty Dolla $ign. My favourite of these is Lean On. :)

Anitta and Major Lazer have also worked together on the song Sua Cara with Brazilian drag queen and singer Pabllo Vittar. Anitta is set to release her 5th album Girl from Rio this year.

Make It Hot was released in June 2019. It's a Spanish language song.  I first saw the video on TV channel Trace Latina which they started showing it in the UK in 2019. They took it away last year for some reason though.

Update 13/5/23: I had to replace the music video:

There doesn't seem to be an official upload of the music video, so I'm also including a link to the official lyric video (in case this one gets removed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GIcodbY9fc

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
