One of my favourite singers Jennifer Lopez just turned 50. It was her birthday on Wednesday (24th July). She celebrated with a big party in Miami. Read about it here: https://people.com/music/jennifer-lopez-50th-birthday-miami-bash/
Jennifer started her career as a Fly Girl dancer on the American TV series In Living Color in the early 90s. She moved into films and her breakout role was in the 1997 movie Selena, in which she starred as real life Mexican American singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez who was tragically shot and killed in 1995. Her other films since include Anaconda (1997), U Turn (also 1997), Out of Sight (1998), The Wedding Planner (2001), The Back-up Plan (2010), 2015's The Boy Next Door, Second Act (2018) and the upcoming Hustlers.
She's also returned to TV starring in the crime drama TV series Shades of Blue, and executive producing the reality show World of Dance, on which she also appeared as a co-judge.
In May 1999 Jennifer launched her music career with the single If You Had My Love, followed by her debut album On The 6 in June. I remember when If You Had My Love first came out. (Seems mad that was 20 years ago!). I was 15 at the time and I actually bought the single in Paris. I was on holiday there and went to Virgin Megastores (remember them?)! I then got On The 6 when it came out. I still have the original CD!
Since then she's released 63 singles, including If You Had My Love, Waiting for Tonight, Love Don't Cost a Thing, I'm Real, I'm Into You, On the Floor, First Love, Ain't Your Mama and Medicine. And she's brought out 7 studio albums to date- On the 6, J.Lo (2001), This is Me... Then (2002), Rebirth (2005), the Spanish language Coma Ama Mujer ("How a Woman Loves" in English) in 2007, Brave (also 2007), Love? (2011) and AKA (2014).
She also has two remix albums, 2002's J to tha Lo: The Remixes (I have this; my fave remix on there is Ain't It Funny Murder Remix feat. Ja Rule and Cadillac Tah) and Dance Again... The Hits (2012); as well as an EP The Reel Me, released in 2003.
My favourite album is still On the 6 and second to that would be J.Lo. My fave singles are If You Had My Love, I'm Real remix and I'm Into You, although I like lots of others.
J.Lo is currently on her It's My Party tour (named in honour of her birthday) which started in June and finishes tomorrow.
So to celebrate her birthday, here is a round-up of posts. :)
