Debut Wi.S.H. Album

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week. I wasn't feeling very inspired, but then I had a post idea and didn't get it finished in time yesterday. :)

In August, Indian girl group W.i.S.H released their debut album Sweetburn. The 4 member group (India's first girl group in 23 years!) debuted back in March 2024. Their music (known as I-pop) is a mix of Hindi and English, with both Indian and international influences. 

W.i.S.H's creation was inspired by the rise of K-pop globally, although they want to create ther own path.

Sweetburn, which was released on 10th August, consists of 8 tracks, including W.i.S.H's debut single Lazeez and their singles Galti featuring Mxrzi, Therapy and Headrush. 

The lead single is Bolo Bolo featuring Panther, which came out in July and newer singles are Ishaare, Drameboss.  I think they've released about 7 official singles from the album.

Their latest single is Desi Girl, which is a stand-alone single. It;'s a cover of the classic song from the Bollywood film Dostana, originally sung by Shankar Mahdevan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Vishal Dadlani.

Sweetburn is a mix of genres, including Afropop, synth pop and Indian classical music, and the girls describe it as "equal parts sweet and savage, soft and unfiltered, polished and personal".

Lazeez

Galti feat. Mxrzi

Galti was their 2nd single, coming out in April 2024. It features Indian rapper and singer-songwriter Mxrzi. I also featured the video in my Asian Groups post: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2024/04/asian-groups-indian-girl-group.html

 

Therapy

This was the 3rd single, released in June 2024. The W.i.S.H members Ri, Zo, Sim and  Suchi say it is a song about "knowing your self worth, letting go and moving on".

It's more of a dance song,  a mix of English and Hindi lyrics. Click "Closed caption/subtitles" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

 

 

Headrush

Bolo Bolo feat. Panther

Bolo Bolo is the lead single from Sweetburn and was released in July, ahead of the album. W.i.S.H teamed up with Indian rapper Panther for the Afro-Desi fusion track. The title translates as "Tell Me" in English (I think "Bolo" can also mean "Speak" but that's the translation on the official subtitles!) and it's about saying what your heart truly wants you to say.

Ishaare

Ishaare came out in August. It's about little signals and vibes that speak louder than words, and a special song to W.i.S.H because it helped them feel more connected to their culture.

And finally, here is Drameboss, the most recent single from the album. It came out on 6th September.

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . 25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.
