I've often featured Bollywood music (and films) on Star Sparkle (and sometimes South Indian music, such as Tollywood and Kollywood. However, I haven't featured music from the Indian music industry outside of films as often.
So today I'm sharing a quick round-up of previous posts on the blog, plus some newer Indian pop music. :)

And here are a couple of newer videos.
Sunidhi Chauhan, Rusha & Blizza feat. Sanya Malhotra- AANKH
Indian playback singer Sunidhi Chauhan has mostly recorded music for Bollywood films, as well as for other Indian movie industries, such as Marathi, Kannada and Tamil/Kollywood. She has also released non-film songs. This is her most recent single AANKH.
The single is a collaboration with Indian experimental music duo Rusha & Blizza and was released in December. It's a Hindi language pop/experimental folk song. The chorus reminds me a bit of Chakna Chakna from Namastey London!
The video features Sunidhi and Bollywood actress Sanya Malhrotra, who dance together.

Note: I've only done two so far, so I plan to write more in the future!

W.i.S.H- Boom Boom
Back in December, W.i.S.H (India's first girl group in 22 years!) released their 6th single Boom Boom. It's a new version of the classic song by Biddu and the late Nazia Hassan.
Nazia was a Pakistani singer and lawyer who started her music career as a teenager, in the 80s as part of the duo Nazia and Zoheb, with her brother Zoheb. She became very popular and was nicknamed the "Queen of South Asian Pop". Nazia was also a philanthropist who worked to improve the lives of underprivileged children, youth and women. She sadly died in 2000.
She often worked with London based, Indian composer Biddu (full name Biddu Appaiah) who is considered one of the pioneers of disco, Euro-disco and Indian pop. One of Biddu's most well-known songs is the 1974 hit single Kung Fu Fighting by Jamaican British singer Carl Douglas, which Biddu produced.
Boom Boom was a single from Star/Boom Boom, the 2nd album by Nazia and Zoheb. The album was originally released in 1982 as the soundtrack from the Bollywood film Star and re-released as Boom Boom two years later. In 2004 it was released again. Biddu also brought out a remix version in 1995.
W.i.S.H's cover pays tribute to the disco/pop track and was released in December.

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) I recently came across the Indian boyband FIRST5, who are basically W.i.S.H's male equivalent! I plan to do a post about them in future. Who are your favourite Indian singers/groups?
