C-pop Saturday

Time for another instalment of C-pop Saturday, my semi- regular series sharing Chinese music! I've only done one other post this year (in February), so this is the 2nd one of 2025. :)

 

ELL&s- Elevatah

First up, a Taiwanese girl group! This is Elevatah by ELL&s, who are signed to KJM Entertainment. The group cionsis of 5 members- 4 of whom were previusl in pre-debut girl group SUNNY PARFUM. According to their Kprofiles, they are a sub-unit of SUNNY PARFUM.

The members are lead vocalist Ashlee (real name Chan Hsai-chen/Xinchan), Theia (Zheng Yuhsin), Cherry (Chen Chen-wei/Huang Xiuwan/), Rosie (don't know her full name yet) and Shan/Shanshan (Chen Yu-shan). All the girls apart from Rosie were members of SUNNY PARFUM*

ELL&s debuted in July 2024 with the digital single Elevatah. They also released the special single Ride or Die (2024 Remaster Version) last September, a remake of a song originally released by SUNNY PARFUM.

Elevatah was the girls' debut single, released in July last year. The music video premiered in August. The song is a mixture of Chinese and English lyrics.  Click "Closed captions/subtitles" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)

J.Sheon- YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW

Next up is YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW by Taiwanese American rapper/producer J. Sheon, who is also a member of Chinese hip hop group PANTHEPACK. It's from his 3rd studio album OUTCOMES, which was released last November.

YOU DON'T NEED TO KNOW is reflective R'n'B Mandarin language song. It came out in December. English subtitles available!

Karencici feat. ICE- It's A Vibe

And now we heer from J.Sheon's bandmate Chinese American singer Karencici! This is It's a Vibe. It's from her latest album Made For You, which was released last December. 

It's A Vibe was the 2nd single from the album, following the title track, which came out in December and preceding Baby I (see below). It features Chinese rapper ICE, who is also memner of PANTHEPACK, along with Hong Kong rapper/singer (and member of K-pop boyband GOT7) Jackson Wang), who founded the group.

It's a chilled R'n'B track with Chinese and English lyrics, about the vibe of being in love. The single was released in March.

 


 

Karencici- Baby I (Live Performance)

And here is Baby I, Karencici's latest single. It's also from Made For You. 

Baby I is a sexy R'n'B/dance song (more upbeat than It's A Vibe) with all-English lyrics. This is a live performance video and was uploaded in May.

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. 25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year.
