C-pop Saturday

Time for another C-pop Saturday post (my semi-regular series featuring Chinese music)! Here is another selection of C-pop (and sometimes other genres). :)

Zunya- Love on a Boat

First up is Love on a Boat by Taiwanese singer Zunya. His real name is Tong Li and his music combines modern pop with traditional Chinese instruments.  His popular songs include That's Called Life, Wu Yu and Beautiful Night featuring Taiwanese actress (and occasional singer) Gingle Wang.

Zunya's latest release is the album Grateful, which came out in June and his most recent single is All Is Well.

Love on a Boat is a lighthearted R'n'B song and it's about lovers on a boat who now have to communicate face to face, rather than through their mobile phones. (At least according to Google Translate and what I gather from the video!). The video (which was directed by Taiwanese singer and rapper J.Sheon) was uploaded in June.

NICKTHEREAL- CLOUD 9 2023 SPRITE LIMELIGHT

Next is CLOUD 9 by Taiwanese singer and rapper NICKTHEREAL aka Nick Chou. It's his latest single and also the 2023 Sprite Limelight Taiwan theme song. Sprite Limelight is a music project/programme that launched last year and aims to shine a spotlight on artists from around the world.

This isn't the first time that Nick has collaborated with a brand, having previously teamed up with Chinese singer Tia Ray for the song Lincoln MKC, which was for the launch of the car.  Side note: If you were looking for one, the MKC is unfortunately no longer available, but the latest car is the Lincoln Corsair! At least Sprite is usually available in a lot of countries and much more affordable, lol.

Cloud 9 was released in June. It's a mostly Chinese song with some English lyrics. I like the chilled and summery vibes.

Lexie Liu- Bad Dream

This is Bad Dream, the latest single by Chinese rapper and singer Lexie Liu. It's from her 5th and most recent album The Happy Star, which was released in December last year.

Bad Dream is a ballad style song with a moody atmosphere, that changes pace slightly towards the end. It's a mixture of Chinese (Mandarin) and English. The video was uploaded in July and features the lyrics on screen in both languages, which Lexie's videos often do. :)

Diana Wang- Somebody Else

Finally, this is Somebody Else, the new single by Dutch Chinese singer Diana Wang. It's a sad love song about letting go of the person you love. I like the way it starts off with a gentler vibe and then the more rock part kicks in.

Somebody Else is sung in a mixture of Chinese and English. It came out in August and this is the official lyric video.

Hope you liked the post! :) I'll probably do one more C-pop Saturday before the end of the year. What Chinese songs are you listening to at the moment?

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
