K-pop in Public- More Girl Group Classics

Sorry the 2nd post is later this week; I didn't manage to get it finished. :)

In June I wrote a K-pop in Public post (dance covers of Korean songs in public places) called Girl Group Classics. It featured dance covers of classic songs by girl groups. You can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2025/06/k-pop-in-public-girl-group-classics.html

I thought today I'd do a follow-up sharing more girl group classics! :)

[KPOP IN PUBLIC] EXID - 'Up & Down' | DANCE COVER BY T-DOLLS

First up, here is a cover of UP&DOWN (also written in lower case) by EXID. They are a 3rd generation K-pop group (just about) debuting in early 2012.  After 6 years, EXID announced that they were going on hiatus indefinitely when it came to group activites in South Korea (due to some members leaving their agency Banana Culture.

However, they continued to release music in Japan. In 2022, the girls made a comeback to commemorate their 10th anniversary, going on tour, appearing on a special TV programme and releasing the single album X in September.

Up & Down was released digitally in August 2014 and was the lead single from EXID's 2nd EP Ah Yeah (which came out in the following April). It wasn't initially very successful, but became more popular after a fan video of member Hani performing it went viral on Korean social media in October the same year.

It reached No. 1 on the South Korean Gaon Digital Chart (now known as the Circle Digital Chart) and is now considered one of the group's most successful singles. A Chinese language version was released in January 2017 and a Japanese version in August 2018. The latter appeared on their debut Japanese studio album Trouble (released in April 2019).

The dance cover is performed by Singaporean dance team T-DOLLS and was uploaded in August 2024.

[KPOP IN PUBLIC TIMES SQUARE | ONE TAKE | 2HR CHA] EXID Up & Down - Obsessed Dance Crew

Here is another Up & Down cover, this time by American dance crew OBSESSED DANCE. It was part of a 2 hour challenge, where the group only had 2 hours' rehearsal before filming.

The performance took place in Times Square in New York and features Zoe as LE, Estella as Jeonghwa, Emily as Hyelin, Sophie as Solji and Ricka as Hani. The video premiered in April.

[KPOP IN PUBLIC] GIRLS' DAY- 'SOMETHING' Dance Cover by OnePear |Australia

Next is a dance cover of  Something by 2nd gen group Girl's Day. Debuting in 2010, the group was active for 9 years, going on indefinite hiatus (although not officially disbanding) in 2019. However, their last release was 2 years before that, the EP Girl's Day Everyday #5 in 2017.

Something was the title track from Girl's Day 4th mini album Girl's Day Everyday 3 and both were released in January 2014.  It also later appeared on their 2nd studio album Love (released in July 2015. Something of one of my favourite songs of theirs and was a Weekly Music Video back in March 2014 (over 10 years ago now)!

The cover is by Australian dance crew OnePear. It was performed in Sydney and uploaded in January. The dancers are Ann as Minah, Suki as Sojin, Angelina as Yura and Annie as Hyeri.

[KPOP IN PUBLIC | ONE TAKE] Miss A  - Bad Girl Good Girl Dance Cover by T-Dolls

Finally, here is another one by T-DOLLS, this time a dance cover of Bad Girl Good Girl by miss A. They were a 2nd generation group (sometimes described as Korean-Chinese, due to the members being from both South Korea and China), debuting in 2010.

Originally a 4-piece, Jia (full name Meng Jia left in 2016 and launched a solo career in China. Fellow member Min (full name Lee Min-young) followed in late 2017, leaving the final two members Fei (Wang Fei Fei) and Suzy (Bae Su-ji/Bae Suzy).  In December 2017, miss A officially disbanded. All the members went on to have solo music and/or acting careers.*

Bad Girl Good Girl was the group's debut single, released in June 2010. It's one of their most successful singles, reaching No. 1 on the Gaon Digital Chart and becoming the best performing single of the year. It was the first single from their debut EP Bad But Good, which came out in July 2010. The track was also featured on miss A's debut studio album A Class, which was released in July 2011.

The dance cover was uploaded in May and the dancers are Winter as Jia, Audrey as Min, Chloe as Fei and Snowclock as Suzy.

New Unexpected

We're finally getting the new season of the reality TV series Unexpected in the UK! Season 3 was shown in the US last summer , and I wondered when we'd get it here. I don't have any online streaming services so thought I'd just watch clips on YouTube, lol. However it's now starting here in early March. Similar to the popular MTV franchise Teen Mom , Unexpected focuses on teen parents. The first series featured 3 couples expecting babies- Lily Bennett and her boyfriend James Kennedy who have daughter Aaliyah, now 2;  Mckayla Adkins and partner Caelan Morrison who have son Timothy, also known as Timmy (and now daughter Gracelynn , born in January 2019), and  Lexus Scheller and boyfriend Shayden Massey who have daughter Scarlett. Season 2 saw the departure of Lilly and the addition of 3 new pregnant girls and their partners- Laura Barron and her boyfriend (now husband) Tylor Stawmyor who have son Lucas (and have since had another baby , a 2nd son, who is named Leo), ...

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences. The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the D...

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...
