Weekly Music Video

This week's video is Shut Up by American singer Skylar Simone. Her full name is Skylar Star Stecker and her dad  is former American football player Aaron Stecker.

Skylar started her singing career as a pre-teen, by performing the American National Anthem at sports events. As of 2015 she had sung it more than 100 times. In 2013 she started uploading cover videos on YouTube and went on to release the digital album Uncovered, Vol. 1 in June 2014.

She released her debut single Rooftop in June 2015 and her debut studio album This Is Me in September 2015,  aged 13 (under Cherrytree Records). Another version of the album came out the following June, called This Is Me: Signature Version.

After becoming an independent artist, Skylar released her 2nd album Redemption in March 2019. She has also brought out 4 EPs- Uncovered (2014), Firecracker (2015), Earth Signs (2021) and Shiver (2024).

Her singles include Sweet Dreams with JX Riders (a cover of the 1983 Eurythmics single,  Only Want You, How Did We (all of which reached No.1 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, hate that for you, What's Good featuring American singer Tone Sith, Shiver, Shut Up and Permission.

Skylar was named Radio Disney's Next Big Thing in 2017. She has released a mixture of  R'n'B, pop and dance music, although I think these days she's mainly concentrating on R'n'B. This year she signed to Def Jam and released her debut single with them, Shiver, in May.

Random fact: Other Radio NBT winners/runner ups include Jaz from sister duo 2XO and Coco Jones.

In addition to singing, Skylar is an actress. Her acting credits include the American sitcom Super Fun Night in 2013 and the Disney TV show Austin & Ally in 2015.

Shut Up is from Shiver, Skylar's latest EP which was released in August. It came out in July and is a smooth R'n'B song. I also like the video, it's simple but fits the vibe of  the song. It's reminiscent of early 00s music videos/

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
