International Girl Groups

Today's post is all about the girls! While most of the girl groups I know are Western (mainly British and American) and Korean), last year I came across a couple of groups from different countries. So, I thought it would be fun to feature them in a post. :)

Afrikanas-  Põe mais açúcar

First up is Angolan girl band Afrikanas. The group is made up of Cilana, Serafina, Clyde and Jandira, and they sing in Portuguese.

They started out in 2012 with the album Sonhos e Verdades (Dreams and Truths in English).  One of their most successful singles is Esse Som.

I don't really know any African girl groups (mainly solo singers), so I was pleased to find Afrikanas. I originally found their video on the PlatinaLine YouTube channel.

I couldn't find much info about Afrikanas online and translated this from Portuguese with Google Translate, so I hope it's accurate! Please let me know if you have more information about them. :)

This is Põe mais açúcar  (Put more sugar), a sultry R'n'B song which was released back in November 2015.

I'm not sure if Afrikanas are still active, but you can follow their YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCTXrCqW_Qt2kC_0cZsrNdrQ

And find more videos on PlatinaLine: https://www.youtube.com/user/platinaline/search?query=afrikanas

G-TWENTY- Unspoken Word

This is G-TWENTY, a Thai girl group launched by Mono Music. They released their debut single in 2011 and their debut album in 2012.

In 2013 the line-up consisted of 7 girls- Sugu, Spatchi, Mint, Nisha, Gift, Tisha and Prae. As with the Arikinaas post, I translated this into English, so I hope that it's right! :)

Unspoken Word was released in October 2013.

Update 4/3/22: The video has English subtitles! Either I forgot to mention this before or they've added them. :)

I'm unsure if G-TWENTY is still active either, but you can check out the page below for more about them:

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
