This week's video is Be With You by Atomic Kitten. They are a British girl group who formed in 1998. The original members when the group debuted were Natasha Hamilton, Liz McClarnon and Kerry Katona. (In the first place Heidi Range from Sugababes was a member but she was replaced by Natasha). The group was formed in Liverpool, where Natasha and Liz are from. (Kerry is from Warrington, Cheshire).
Atomic Kitten's debut single Right Now was released in 1999, followed by See Ya, I Want Your Love and Follow Me in 2000. Their debut album came out in October 2000. They were successful in the UK and were also well received in Japan.
In January 2001 Atomic Kitten weren't doing so well and were on the verge of being dropped by their record label but they released their 5th single Whole Again and it revived their career, reaching No 1 in the UK Singles Chart. It also got to No 1 in several countries around the world and is one of their best selling singles to date. During this time Kerry left the group to have her first baby Molly with her fiance, Westlife singer Brian McFadden and was replaced by Jenny Frost, formerly of girlband Precious. Whole Again was re-recorded with Jenny's vocals for the re-release of Right Now and the music video was shot again with her in it. The Right Now re-release got to No 1 on the UK Albums Chart.
Some of Atomic Kitten's other successful singles are Eternal Flame (a cover of 80s group The Bangles' song), The Tide is High (Get The Feeling (a cover of 70s/80s band Blondie's hit), both of which got to No 1 and The Last Goodbye and Be With You (both No 2). In addition to Right Now they have released two more studio albums, Feels So Good (2002) ans Ladies Night (2003) and 5 compilations, including Atomic Kitten (2003), Greatest Hits (2004) and The Essential Collection (2012). Feels So Good was also a best seller.
The group drifted apart in 2004, due to Natasha taking a hiatus to look after her son Josh and then Jenny and Liz pursing other projects. They reunited occasionally for performances but it wasn't until 2012 that there was a proper reunion with the original line-up of Kerry, Liz and Natasha. They got back together for the TV show The Big Reunion, along with other 90s and 2000 pop groups, such as Liberty X, 5ive and the Honeyz. Jenny didn't take part because she was pregnant with her twins Nico and Blake at the time. The Big Reunion was a hit and the bands released a charity single I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, a cover of glam rock band Wizzard's song.
Atomic Kitten took a break during 2013 and 2014 due to Kerry having her 5th child Dylan- Jorge. They were set to tour with other groups late last year but the tour was cancelled. Their Greatest Hits tour was also cancelled in May. Kerry stated last November that they planned to release a new album this year.
Atomic Kitten were one of my favourite groups. I have the original version of Right Now and the other two albums as well. Be With You is one of my favourite songs. I've just read that it's an adaptation of the song Last Train to London by the Electric Light Orchestra. It was released in November 2002 as a double A-side with The Last Goodbye. It's not on the UK Feels So Good album but is on other versions, and you can also find it on Ladies Night. :)
