C-pop Saturday

Time for the final C-pop Saturday of the year! I started this feature last year and planned to make it a regular feature. I've done more posts this year than during 2018 (5 including this one, compared to 3) so that's good, lol. I'd like to continue it next year as well.

VaVa- Lie

First up is Lie by Chinese rapper VaVa, which was released on 17th October.

Jane Zhang- Exeed

Jane Zhang  has a music video for the song Exeed which I think is also a Chinese TV advert for the EXEED car. Much like Nick Chou and Tia Ray's Lincoln MKC song! It would be cool if they'd make car ads over here more interesting by making them into music videos, lol. The video came out on 25th October.

Jane also released her first English language album Past Progressive in April, under her own label. It includes the singles Dust My Shoulders Off,Work for It (Remix) and Pull Me Up.

Watch the video for  the single Pull Me Up,  which was released in January here:

And here is the music video for Body First. It's an optical illusion video, read the YouTube description for instructions: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZpjv27QH3U

It's worth checking out Past Progressive. It's a good album; reminds me a bit of Utada Hikaru's English music! My favourite songs are Think Like a Man and Adam and Eve. Just bought them on iTunes. Listen here: https://open.spotify.com/album/0iKl4F3m9B12hUTYCQv1Z4

Chen Linong-Exclusive Contract

This is a new song by Taiwanese singer Chen Linong.* He competed in the Chinese reality show Idol Producer (similar to the K-pop idol shows) and was chosen as a member of boyband Nine Percent. The group were together for 18 months, debuting in April 2018 and disbanding this October.

Linong (whose English name is Leo) has released several solo songs but I think his first official single was I am yours which came out in October 2018. In January he brought out the song Half of it is Me, which got to No. 1 in China and his latest single is Exclusive Contract which was released on 31 October.

I think this is the video for Exclusive Contract. The title is written in Chinese but I found it posted on another site as Exclusive Contract. The video came out on 10th November.

THEO (Zhu Zhengting) Flip

THEO (real name Zhu Zhenting) is a fellow former member of Nine Percent.* He's Chinese and also the leader of C-pop boyband NEX7. Zhengting competed in the Korean boy group survival reality show Produce101 and then took part in the Chinese Idol 101 after being eliminated in Produce. He was chosen as a member of Nine Percent and also debuted in NEX7 in June 2018.

Zhengting released solo single The Winter Light last December, followed by Green Christmas. His other singles include Waiting To Be Signed, You're My Light and Flip. He released his first EP Chapter Z in September. In addition to singing, he acts and models.

This is Flip, which is from Chapter Z and is an R'n'B style song. It came out on 10th October.

Kris Wu- Eternal Love (Official Short Film)

Finally here's something a bit different- Eternal Love, a short film by Chinese Canadian singer (former EXO member) Kris Wu. It has a dramatic storyline and beautiful music and was uploaded to YouTube on 6th November.

Update 17/6/22: The video has been removed, I imagine due to Kris' 2021 criminal charges.

So that's it for the last C-pop Saturday post of the year! Hope you enjoyed it. :)

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...
