C-pop Saturday

I've been doing the C-pop Saturday feature more regularly this year, and it's time for the first one of the summer!

 

Meiqi- Jiang

This is  Jiang by Chinese singer Meiqi. Her full name is Meng Meiqi (the surname is first) and she is a member of Korean/Chinese girl group Cosmic Girls and also the Chinese idol girl group Rocket Girls 101.

Born in Henan province in China, Meiqi moved to South Korea  aged 15 to become a trainee. She made her music debut as a member of Cosmic Girls (also known as WJSN) with the mini album Would You Like? in early  2016. In 2018 she competed in Produce 101, the Chinese version of the Korean reality music show, and made it to the final to become a member of Rocket Girls.

In April Meiqi released her debut EP Jiang and single of the same name. It became the fastest selling digital album of 2019.

In addition to singing, Meiqi is an actress. Her films include Step Up China (2018), Autumn in my Heart/Autumn Fairy Tale (2019) and the upcoming Jade Dynasty.

Here's I AM THE MAN, a song by Taiwanese singer Nick Chou aka NICKTHEREAL which came out last September.


 

Jolin Tsai- Karma

Join Tsai (also from Taiwan) released Karma in May. It's from her 14th studio album Ugly Beauty which came out in December. If you click on "Subtitles/Closed Captions" while viewing it on YouTube you can see English subtitles. :)

Tia Ray feat. Gallant- Trust Myself

Here is Trust Myself the new one by Chinese singer Tia Ray featuring American singer Gallant, which was uploaded on 21st June. This is an R'n'B song and is in English. Nice beat and vibe. :)

Roi & Jackson Wang- Another

Finally this is Another by Chinese rapper and singer Roi. His real name is Qin Feng and he started out in Korean boyband The Legend before going solo in November with the single Show Me.

Another features Hong Kong singer and rapper Jackson Wang (member of K-pop group GOT7 and solo artist). It was released on 19th June and is a mixture of English and Chinese (Mandarin?). This is a lyric video.

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album.
