Debut Mabel Album

Swedish/British singer Mabel just released her debut album High Expectations yesterday  (2nd August). Daughter of Swedish singer Neneh Cherry and British music producer Cameron McVey, Mabel was born in Spain, grew up in Stockholm in Sweden and later moved to the UK. She released her debut single Know Me Better back in summer 2015, so her first album has been a long time coming! She previously brought out the EP Bedroom and the mixtape Ivy to Roses, but this is her first full length, studio album.

In June I did an Upcoming Album Releases post which also featured American singer BANKS' album III. You can read the post here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/06/upcoming-album-releases.html

High Expectations consists of 20 tracks in total, with 14 main songs and 6 bonus ones. The tracklist includes the singles Don't Call Me Up, Mad Love and Bad Behaviour (promotional single), plus previous releases Finders Keepers featuring Kojo Funds, Fine Line with Not3s and Cigarette with Raye and Stefflon Don.

It's a good album. The music is similar to Bedroom and Ivy to Roses, a mixture of pop and R'n'B, with some Afropop such as on Finders Keepers. So if you like them you'll probably like High Expectations. :) My favourite songs are Finders Keepers (which I already have since it;s on the EP bedroom), FML, Put Your Name On It, We Don't Say,  OK Anxiety Anthem and Not Sayin'. I also like Don't Call Me Up, Fine Line, Mad Love and Bad Behaviour. The intro, interlude and outro are all good as well, especially Stckhlm Syndromr. Sometimes I really like the intros/interludes of an album and think it's a shame that theyre short! lol. Here are a few of my favourite songs. :)

Finders Keepers feat. Kojo Funds

Finders Keepers was released as a single in May 2017 and to No. 8 in the UK charts. You can watch the video here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2017/03/weekly-music-video_22.html

Fine Line feat. Not3s

This was a single released in early 2018. Check out the video here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2018/02/weekly-music-video_7.html

Mad Love

2nd single from the album. Visit this post to watch the video (scroll down to Mabel section): https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2019/06/upcoming-album-releases.html

Bad Behaviour

The video for Bad Behaviour came out on 24th July. I think it's a promotional single.

FML

FML stands for F**k My Life. This is the official audio. As you can tell by the title, it's explicit! :)

We Don't Say

This is We Don't Say which is about wishing you'd said how you truly felt about someone you were in a relationship with. It  has a nice chilled vibe.

Put Your Name On It

Another good one. :) It's about telling a man to stop messing you around and commit, because you deserve to be treated well.

OK (Anxiety Anthem)

As someone who has anxiety, I love the fact that Mabel included a song about having anxiety and how it's ok not to be ok sometimes. :)  It's not a subject that there re a lot of song about, as far as I'm aware. She's spoken about suffering from anxiety and depression as a child and teenager, and how music has helped her.

Update 16/8/19: The music video for OK has just been uploaded:

You can also see the videos for My Lover with Not3s and Ring Ring with Jax Jones and Rich The Kid in the Upcoming Album Releases post.

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...
