In March I wrote a post about the 25th anniversary of Jennifer Lopez's 2nd studio album J.Lo. It ended up being quite long, so I split it into two parts. You can see Part 1 here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/25th-anniversary-of-jennifer-lopezs-jlo.html
Now here is Part 2! It's taken a couple of months but never mind, lol. In this post I'm sharing more songs I like, plus new/previously unreleased tracks from the 25th anniversary edition of the album. :)
I'm Gonna Be Alright
The original I'm Gonna Be Alright is a track from J.Lo but was not released as a single. It only has vocals by Jennifer and samples the 1980 single 8th Wonder by American hip hop group The Sugarhill Gang.
The original version is more poppy and Latin style. This is the official audio.
I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix)
The song was remixed for Jennifer's 2002 album J to Tha L-O! The Remixes (her first remix album) and released as a single. The remix is by the Trackmasters (Poke & Tone) and samples American hip hop duo Luniz' 1995 single I Got 5 On It featuring Michael Marshall (which itself sampled by the 1987 single Why You Treat Me So Bad by R'n'B group Club Nouveau).
The original version featured rapper 50 Cent but fellow rapper Nas was asked to be on the radio version by J.Lo's record company Epic Records, since they considered Nas to be more popular. This caused trouble between the two artists, who had previously been friends.
The 50 Cent version only appeared on the first American releases of the remix album. The European one (which I have) and later American versions have no rap at all. The version featuring Nas was also included on the European release of Jennifer's 3rd studio album This Is Me...Then (which I also have).
I'm Gonna Be Alright (Track Masters Remix) was the 2nd single from J to Tha L-O!, coming after Ain't It Funny (Murder Remix) (see Part 1). Released in April 2002, it steadily climbed the charts, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, which gave Jennifer her 6th Top 10 song and Nas his 4th. It did very well here in the UK, debuting a No. 3 in the UK Singles Chart and reached the Top 10 in several mainland European countries, including Denmark and Switzerland.
While I like both versions of I'm Gonna Be Alright, the remix is my favourite. I'm not sure if I'd heard the 50 Cent version until researching for this post though.
The music video was inspired by Jennifer's film Enough, (which came out the following month) a thriller in which she plays an abused wife who escapes from her husband with their daughter.
Side note: Enough was based on the 1998 book Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen, which also inspired the true movie of the same name.
The video was filmed in J.Lo's home borough of the Bronx in New York and featured Nas and Cris Judd (her 2nd husband who she was married to at the time). I included it in my Top 10 Jennifer Lopez Songs post back in 2012. You can see that here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2012/10/top-10-jennifer-lopez-songs.html
And here is the 50 Cent version:
Cariño
Cariño was released as a promotional single from the original album. It's a Latin pop and disco-salsa song with Mambo influences, which samples the 1976 track Sofrito by Cuban percussionist Mongo Santamaria. It was produced by American record producer Guillermo Edghill Jr (also known as Big Joon!) whose musician father had worked with Mongo.
The title is an affectionate term which translates as "Love and affection" or Dear" in English. It's a mix of English and Spanish lyrics. There's also an all-Spanish version which was a bonus track on the Spanish and Brazilian editions of the album. But only the original version is included on the 25th anniversary edition.
It's one of my favourite songs from J.Lo. I didn't know it was released as a promotional single. This is the audio.

Crazy (Nobody Else)
This is the only new song on the album ,although it's not actually new but an unreleased older track.
It's a R'n'B song that was produced by Rodney Jerkins aka Darkchild.
Can't Believe
Can't Believe (not to be confused with (Can't Believe) This Is Me from Jennifer's 4th album Rebirth) was a hidden track on both the special edition limited fan pack and the Malaysian edition of J.Lo. Now it's been featured on the 25th anniversary edition. I don't think I'd ever heard it before this year.
The song is about a cheating partner. Please note that it contains swearing. :)
