Ethiopian and Eritrean Videos

In September I did a world dance post focusing on African dance. One of the categories I featured was Ethiopian dance. You can see that post here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2021/09/world-dance-african.html

At the time I came across a couple of Ethiopian and Eritrean music videos. I thought it would be cool to share some music from those countries today. :)

Note: If you're unsure where it is, Eritrea is a country in East Africa and borders Ethiopia. Both countries are in a region called the Horn of Africa.

Yared Negu and Millen Hailu- BIRA-BIRO

First up is BIRA BIRO by Ethiopian singer Yared Negu and Eritrean singer Millen Hailu, which was released in June. I believe they are singing in Amharic and Birobiro means "Butterfly" in English.  Apologies if I'm wrong. Please let me know if you can translate the lyrics. :)

Siem Syum- Eru

This is Eru by Eritrean singer Siem Syum. I think he is singing in Tigrigna,  one of the main languages of Eritrea. I can't find any information about him online (at least not in English) but will update if I do in future.

The video is from January.

Update 14/10/22: The video has now been made private, but here's a new video from August (not sure what the title is):

Hana Endrias- Agibe

Finally, this is Endrias by Eritrean singer Hana Endris, also singing in Tigrigna. I can't find much info about her online about her either. Let me know if you have any information on Hana or Siem, and if you know an English translation of either song. :)

The video was uploaded in July.

Did you know? Canadian singer The Weeknd (real Abel Tesfaye) has Ethiopian heritage. :)

Hope you enjoyed the post! :) It's great hearing new styles of music. Some of these remind me of Arabic music but with their own style, of course. Who are your favourite Ethiopian and/of Eritrean singers?

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...
