New Mariah Carey Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey has released a new album! It's called The Rarities and came out on 2nd October.

The Rarities is Mariah's 8th compilation and consists of fan favourites, rare songs and unreleased music. Along with her memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey which was released in September, it marks the 30th anniversary since her debut with her self-titled album in June 1990.

The album has two discs- the first contains 15 tracks ranging from MC's earliest songs in 1990, right up to new music released this year; and the second features live performances of her greatest hits and other well-known songs. I have previously heard Everything Fades Away (originally on the 1993 album Music Box) and Close My Eyes (from the 1997 album Butterfly) but not the acoustic version.

My favourite songs are Do You Think of Me, All I Live For, Slipping Away and Cool On You. Also I already like Everything Fades Away and Close My Eyes. It was cool to hear the Firecracker Original Version of Loverboy as well. The new songs on the album are Save The Day and the acoustic version of Close My Eyes.

Here are some of the songs. They're all audios, but I will update if there are any music or lyric videos made. :)

Save The Day

I previously featured Save The Day in September, along with a new Christina Aguilera song: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2020/09/new-mariah-and-christina-songs.html

Update 23/10/10: The official lyric video for Save the Day has just been uploaded. Watch it in the post above or directly on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZ65DZdQ2Q4

Do You Think of Me

This was recorded in 1993, so it's from the "Music Box era". Music Box was Mariah's 3rd album, released in 1993 and includes the hit song Dream Lover. Do You Think Of Me was released as a B-side on the Dream Lover single.

It's a slow song with a relaxed beat and I especially like the music part at 2.55.

All I Live For

All I Live For is also from 1993, a real "90s sounding" song!  The chorus reminds me of another song. According to comments on YouTube, Mariah recorded new vocals to finish this track from about 3 minutes on.

 Slipping Away

Chilled song with melancholy vibes about a relationship that's going wrong.  It didn't make the cut for Mariah's 1995 album Daydream and ended up being the B-side of Always Be My Baby in 1996.

Loverboy (Firecracker Version)

I knew that back in the day Mariah and Jennifer Lopez (who is also one of my fave singers) had a rivalry, but I didn't know the story behind the sample of Firecracker,  a song by the Japanese band Yellow Magic Orchestra, becoming an issue between them. It was originally used for Loverboy, but given to J.Lo instead by MC's ex-husband Tommy Mottola (now married to Mexican singer and former actress Thalia), so Mariah ended up using Cameo's Candy. Jennifer used it for I'm Real.

I actually think I prefer the version which was included on the Glitter album (2001) but it was good to hear this one too. :) There's a remix as well.

Cool On You

Newer song from 2007 about moving on from a relationship. This is a simple R'n'B song that you can chill out to. Gives me nostalgic vibes! My fave part is the chorus.

25th Anniversary of Mariah Carey's Butterfly Album

My favourite singer Mariah Carey recently released a 25th anniversary edition of her 6th studio album Butterfly. The original album was released on 16th September 1997 and featured songs such as her hit single Honey, The Roof and My All. It was actually the first album I ever bought (on cassette tape, lol) and I still consider it one of my fave MC albums. :) Butterfly was the first album that Mariah had more control over and it is R'n'B, rather than the pop (and later pop/R'n'B) of her previous releases. It also has pop and hip hop influences.  The expanded edition contain 8 extra tracks (the original standard edition has 12)- a duet version of Whenever You Call with Brian McKnight , a new take on The Roof featuring Brandy , live versions of Butterfly and My All, acapella versions of Fourth of July and Outside, an Amorphous Anniversary Club Mix of Butterfly (with DJ Amorphous ) and a remix of Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Mix). I had previously heard the

Debut XG Mini Album

Japanese girl group XG have released their 1st mini album. It's called NEW DNA and was released on 27th September. XG (whose name is short for Xtraordinary Girls) made their debut in March last year and have brought out 7 singles so far- Tippy Toes, MASCARA, LEFT RIGHT/SHOOTING STAR double single), GVRL GANG , TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. The first 3 songs (or 4 including the double single) aren't on the mini album. The concept behind NEW DNA is that of being a "new species" free from conventions and limitations .  Although the group is Japanese, their creation was inspired by Korean music and they are based in South Korea. They have released songs in English so far and have been described as a global group and "X-pop". NEW DNA consists of 6 tracks- HESONO, X-GENE, GVRL GANG, TGIF, NEW DANCE and PUPPET SHOW. It is an R'n'B/pop mini album with influences from other genres, such as K-pop, dance and hip hop. My favourite song is PUPPET SHOW. I al
