Here is the first Asian Groups post of the year! (It's been quite a while since my previous one in September last year!) If you're new to the blog, it's a series featuring groups from Asian countries. Today's post is about Thai girl group VIIS. :)
The group is signed to Thai record label GNEST and originally consisted of 5 members- Atom (real name Pariya Piyapanopas), Cheers (Kotchaphan Kitkrailard), Plaifah (full name Plaifah Siraacha), Tara (Anantara Gibson) and Sonya (Sonya Proud Beeson).
Some of the girls had previous experience in the entertainment industry before debuting. Cheers was a contestant on The Voice Kids Thailand in 2019 and Plaifah became a member of girl group TRIXX (now inactive) which was formed on the reality show The Next Boy/Girl Band Thailand in 2019. Atom started out as an actress in the web series Social Death Vote.
Atom announced that she was leaving last month, due to health reasons. She has still take part in group activities into the early part of this year but just posted a farewell video on Instagram.
VIIS debuted with the digital single Barbie (Oops! Oops!) in September 2023. To date they have released 3 more digital singles- Don't Mind, Thoughtless, MIRROR MIRROR and CHOP CHOP (in 2023 and 2024). They brought out their debut studio album LOVE & LOST in January 2025.
VIIS have also released 4 special singles- Don't Mind (Special Version) in 2023, Boom Boom Boom in 2024, and Thai title (I think "Go ahead and ask her out" in English) and Flirt in 2025. In addition, they collaborated with Thai actor and rapper Gulf Kanawut on the single The Great Celebration in 2023 and on a single last year with Thai singer and actor TIGGER and Thai boy group PERSES.
Barbie (Oops! Oops!)
Barbie (Oops! Oops!) was the group's debut single, which was released in September 2023 and later included on their debut album LOVE & LOST. It's an upbeat pop song about moving on after the end of a relationship. It's mostly Thai language with a few English lyrics.
Click "Subtitles/closed captions" on YouTube for English subtitles! :)
MIRROR MIRROR
MIRROR MIRROR was VIIS' 4th single and is also on LOVE & LOST. It's about love and draws on the theme of fairytales. I like the breakdown around 2.35 mins and the way the song goes a bit more "rocky" afterwards!
It's a mix of Thai and English lyrics. English subtitles available!
CHOP CHOP
CHOP CHOP was the group's 5th single (another one from LOVE & LOST) and came out in October 2024. It's also a mix of English and Thai lyrics.
Thai title (Flirt)
The English title of this song is Flirt. I believe it's a cover of a single by the Thai singer Nok Lamyong/Lamyong Nongninhao who sings Luk Thung (Thai country music). VIIS member Tara wrote a rap for the song.
Flirt was released in June last year and is an all-Thai language song. This is the visualiser video. There are no English subtitles on this one.
I think this is the original music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFtCmpnvQn8
I believe Flirt was VIIS' most recent single, although they did upload a dance practice video for another song (it translates as something like "Just a little pain...") on 5th December. Watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-eyXf5JcdM
