The Eurovision Song Contest is tonight, so here is the 2nd of my annual posts! You can read the 1st one here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2021/05/countdown-to-eurovision-2021.html
I usually watch the semi-final that the UK can vote in because it can be boring if you've seen all the acts before the night of the final. And then I'll watch the acts from the other semi-final that didn't get through online later. This year I watched the second Semi-Final, although I did see a little bit of the first one. So here are my favourites! :)
Hurricane- Loco Loco (Serbia)
Loco Loco by girl group Hurricane was my favourite entry and the one I voted for. It got through to the Grand Final so you will be seeing it tonight!
Hurricane (also known as Hurricane Girls) were formed in 2017 when members Sanja Vučić, Ivana Nikolić and Ksenija Knežević met on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. They have also had individual success with Sanja having represented Serbia in 2016 with the song Goodbye (Shelter), Ksenja providing backing vocals for her father (popular Montenegrin singer) Knez's song Adio, when he entered Eurovision for Montenegro in 2015, and Ivana being a professional dancer who has won national and European competitions. Sanja is also a member of the band ZAA.
Hurricane's singles include Irma, Maria, Who To Love, Brzi prsti, Hasta La Vista, Lopove and Loco Loco. The girls were chosen to represent Serbia last year with Hasta La Vista but then the contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus. Previous acts can enter again but the rules are that you have to enter a new song, so this year they're trying again with Loco Loco!
The song is sung in Serbian (although the title is Spanish for "Crazy Crazy") and was written by Sanja. It's dancey pop- my type of song! Here is their performance from the 2nd Semi-Final.

Samanta Tīna - The Moon is Rising *(Latvia)
This is The Moon is Rising by Samanta Tīna. She has a a history of competing in music shows and previously entered the Eurovision selection process several times (6 for Latvia and twice for her second home Lithuania). She was finally successful for this year's contest!
The Moon is Rising is an interesting song. I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, but then got into it! The song is an anthem to inspire women. It unfortunately didn't get through but here is Samanta's performance from the 2nd Semi-Final.

And now here are a few more I liked:
Anxhela Peristeri- Karma (Albania): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9KXznajJvY
Good, rousing song with a strong chorus.
Uku Suviste- The Lucky One (Estonia): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mhMZQyv_Fhw
I also liked this once it got going, the chorus was my fave part. It didn't qualify though.
Blind Channel- Dark Side (Finland): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw6KnFIIa4I
This is a bit different, kind of Linkin Park esque! They describe their music as "violent pop". Finland isn't afraid to send in something alternative, and of course they won with Lordi back in 2006!
I'm also looking forward to hearing Azerbaijan's entry this year, since I liked Efendi's 2020 entry Cleopatra. Her new song is Mata Hari, but I haven't heard it yet because I'm saving it for later!

Hope you liked the post! :) Who do you tip to win?
The Grand Final is tonight at 8pm BST/9pm CEST. In the UK it will be shown on BBC1.
