At the beginning of 2017 I said I was going to do more Bollywood posts this year.
It's now late August and I've only done 3! Still, I've got a few more
months, lol. So here's a Bollywood video. It's for the song Ek Din Teri
Raahoon Mein from the 2007 film Naqaab. Naqaab means "veil" or "mask" in English, similar to the word niqab, which means the veil that Muslim women wear.
The film is about Indian girl Sophia aka Sophie (played by Urvashi Sharma) who moves to Dubai after a bad experience with a stalker. She meets rich man Karan Oberoi (Bobby Deol) and gets engaged to him, but then falls in love with struggling actor Vicky (Akshaye Khanna). She decides to ignore her attraction and go ahead with the wedding only to have second thoughts at the last minute. After being left at the altar Karan commits suicide. However that's not all to the story....
This is a scene from a night out where Sophia and Vicky perform a dance together. It's a seductive dance and their attraction is obvious. Ek Din Teri Rahoon Mein is my favourite song from the film. It's sung by the playback singer is Javed Ali.
I saw Naqaaab quite a few years ago now. (Can't believe it's 10 years old!). I'd wanted to see it for a while at the time. It's one of those twist type films much like Humraaz (one of my favourite Bollywood films) which both Bobby and Akshaye also starred in. Both movies were directed by famous brothers Abbas-Mustan. Apparently Naqaab is a remake of the British/Spanish film Dot the I (which I've never seen but it does sound similar).
People have also commented that this song is a copy of American singer Mark Anthony's song When I Dream At Night and similar to Egyptian singer Amr Diab's Tamally Maak. To be honest some Bollywood films and songs are remakes/covers or very similar to foreign ones, and people have been accused of plagiarism before. I have Tamaally Maak and I suppose it is a bit similar but different beats; Tamally Maak starts off a bit slower. I just listened to When I Dream At Night and that is definitely the same music.
