This week's video is Fight Like a Girl by American singer Zolita.
She's from California and identifies as a queer feminist. Zolita
released her debut EP Immaculate Conception in October 2015 and two of the songs from
the EP, Explosion and Holy, went viral.
The song and video are about female empowerment and also shows the women and girls practising magic. Zolita herself practises Wicca, as she says in the comment. I myself have pagan beliefs and it's good to see that in a music video. :)
The title and chorus is a play on the phrase "Fight like a girl" which tends to be used negatively, e.g. "You fight like a girl!". But in this case Zolita is using it in a positive way. She says that "fighting like a girl" means "fighting with feminine magick, power of manifestation and power of the mind rather than physical violence" (See Out mag interview below). A variety of people are featured in the video (different races, ages and transgender women).
Fight Like A Girl is Zolita's latest single and will be on her upcoming second EP, due out in October.
