This week's video is Smoke Drink, Break Up by American singer, rapper and dancer Mila J. Mila (real name Jamila Akiko Chilombo) is also known as Jappollonia. She is the older sister of Jhene Aiko.
As a child Mila appeared in the Prince video Diamonds and Pearls. As a member of a dance troupe called Innocence, she performed as a backing dancer for boyband Immature (now IMx) in the 90s and went on to join two girl groups in her teens, Gyrl and Dame Four. She's also known for appearing on a song with Omarion from B2K.
In 2006 Mila signed to Motown Records and launched her solo career with 3 singles including Good Lookin' Out featuring IMx member, solo singer and actor Marques Houston (Roger from Sister Sister! lol). She planned to release a debut album called Split Personality but the plans fell through.
Mila took a break after that, returning in 2012 with a mixtape she made herself. She signed to Motown IDJ again and released the single Smoke, Drink, Break-Up in March. It's the first single from her official debut album M.I.L.A (Made In Los Angles) which is set for release next month.
I recently listened to some Mila songs as part of my 1000 Songs Project.
