Girls vs Boys- K-pop

This week I thought I'd do another K-pop Girls vs Boys post. It's between Korean girl group SISTAR and Korean/Chinese boyband EXO.

I did a post on EXO in April, which you can read here: http://starsparklex.blogspot.co.uk/2014/04/weekly-music-video_30.html

This is the video for Mama, their debut single which was released in April 2013. This is EXO-K's version and it's in Korean. :)

SISTAR are a 4 member group who debuted in June 2010 with the song Push Push. The members are Hyolyn (real name Kim Hyo Jung), Bora (full name Yoon Bora), Soyou (real name Kang Ji Hyun) and Dasom (full name Kim Dasom).* Their debut album So Cool was released in 2011.

SISTAR took a break after the album release, returning in spring 2012 with their 1st mini album Alone and debuting a new style of music. The group went on to release a 2nd mini album in summer 2012 and their 2nd studio album Give It To Me in June last year. They are set to bring out a new mini album next month.

In 2011, two of SISTAR's members (lead singer Hyolyn and rapper Bora) branched off to form their own subgroup SISTAR19. Hyolyn also has a solo career and all the girls have appeared on TV, whether as actresses or on reality shows.

This is the video for Alone, which was released as a single in April 2012. I first heard it the other week as part of my 1000 Songs challenge.

*Korean names are written with the surname first.

South Indian Videos

I've written several Bollywood posts this year but I don't feature South Indian music/films as much. So today I'm sharing some music and dance videos from Tollywood ( the Telugu language film industry) and Kollywood (the Tamil language film industry). :) Oo Antava Mawa- Pushpa- Dance Cover by Sonali First up is a dance cover of the song Oo Antava Mawa..Oo Oo Antava from the 2021 Tollywood film Pushpa: The Rise- Part 1 . I previously featured a dance cover of Oo Antava Mawa in a Dance Videos post in August last year. That one is by Rang De and you can see it here: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/08/dance-videos.html This cover is by Indian choreographer Sonali Bhaduria, from LiveToDance with Sonali and was uploaded in January 2022. It's a shorter video.   For more on Pushpa and to watch the official Oo Antava Mawa video, check out my Tollywood Videos Round-up 2 post from September 2023: https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2023/09/tollywood-videos-round-up-2.html ...

K-pop Comebacks- BTS

Sorry the 2nd post is later again this week, I didn't manage to get it finished yesterday. :) Last month I started a mini series called K-pop Comebacks, featuring the comebacks of K-pop groups during 2026. The first one was about BLACKPINK and you can see it here:  https://starsparklex.blogspot.com/2026/03/k-pop-comebacks-blackpink.html Today I'm focusing on BTS (one of the most popular Korean boybands ). They debuted in 2013 and are a 7-member group, made up of leader RM, formerly known as Rap Monster (real name Kim Nam Joon), SUGA (Min Yoon Gi), Jin (full name Kim Seok Jin), j-hope (Jung Ho-seok), Jimin (Park Ji Min), V (Kim Tae Hyung) and Jungkook (Jeon Jung Kook). * Since then, the boys have been very successful, not only in South Korea but internationally. They are probably one of the most well-known K-pop bands worldwide.  In June 2022, the group took a break while the members served their  mandatory military service in Korea and have also been concentrat...

Weekly Music Video

Sorry there wasn't a 2nd post last week, I was going through a bit of a stressful time and didn't manage to get one finished. :) This week's video is I CONDEMN by Australian singer and rapper The Kid LAROI . It was the first single from the deluxe version of his second album BEFORE I FORGET. The original album was released in January and the deluxe version came out on 24th April. It contains 9 extra tracks, including  I CONDEMN and latest single PIECES. I wasn't aware that there was a deluxe version until I saw that some new songs had appeared on Spotify! I like BEFORE I FORGET and my favourite songs from the original version are ME + YOU, JULY,  COME DOWN and RATHER BE featuring Australian rapper and singer Lithe . One of my fave songs on the deluxe version is QUIT YOU, and I also like HOLD STILL and I CONDEMN. The newest single PIECES came out on out the same day as the album. I CONDEMN was released on 17th April. As with the songs on the original BEFORE I FORGET, it...
