Today's video is Stuck On You by British singer Joss Stone. She first became famous aged 16 with the release of her debut album The Soul Sessions in September 2003 and and its first single Fell in Love with a Boy, a cover of The White Stripes' song (theirs is called Fell in Love with a Girl), which came out in early 2004.
The Soul Sessions was very successful and Joss' second album Mind Body & Soul (released in September 2004) was also a best seller. The lead single You Had Me which came out the same month, is one of her most successful songs. To date she has released 7 albums, the rest are Introducing Joss Stone (2007), Colour Me Free! (2009), LP1 (2011), The Soul Sessions Vol 2 (2012) and her most recent, Water For Your Soul which was released in summer 2015.
Some of her other singles are Right to Be Wrong, Don't Cha Wanna Ride, Tell Me What We're Gonna Do Now featuring American rapper Common, Teardrops which is a cover of the Womack & Womack song (I like the 1998 Lovestation version the best), Stuck on You and The Answer. She also has a greatest hits album and 3 live/session EPs.
Joss was part of the "supergroup" SuperHeavy, with Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger, Indian composer and musician A.R. Rahman, Eurythmics and solo singer Dave Stewart and Jamaican rapper/singer Damian Marley (son of Bob Marley).
She also acts, playing witch/fortune teller Angela in the 2006 film Eragon and Anne of Cleeves, the fourth wife of English king Henry VIII in TV series The Tudors. In addition she's appeared on several TV shows.
In recent years Joss hasn't received much mainstream promotion. She was originally signed to the record label EMI but fought legally to leave them, and the release of her 4th album Colour Me Free! was delayed. She set up her own label called Stone'd Records in 2011. I only discovered Colour Me Free! on Spotify and have come across her later albums there too.
Stuck On You is from Water For Your Soul. I wasn't even aware that it was a single and there was a video until the other day when I came across it on YouTube. I got the album last Christmas and have been listening to it again lately. Joss started out with soul and R'n'B music but WFYS is more reggae heavy. Some songs are more soul/chilled though, like Stuck On You. It's one of my favourite songs and the video is nice as well. :)
